He recently took to social media to share some recommendations on the best foods to eat to reduce your risk of colorectal cancer, according to health news site Eating Well.

These are healthy snacks that you can easily incorporate into your daily routine. Here are four snacks recommended by gastroenterologists to help manage gut health.

Yogurt and its surprising health benefits in effectively preventing cancer

This is one of the best choices for gut health, thanks to its fiber and water content. Research shows that regular consumption of citrus can reduce the risk of cancers of the digestive and upper respiratory tract. To retain the fiber content, it is best to eat the fruit rather than drinking the juice.

Nuts

Nuts, such as almonds and cashews, are high in protein, making them a nutritious snack. Research shows that two servings of nuts (about two small handfuls) a day can help patients with advanced colon cancer reduce their risk of recurrence by up to 42%.

For double the effect, add chopped nuts to yogurt for a super gut-friendly snack.

Apple

An apple a day may keep the doctor away. Packed with heart-healthy fiber, apples are both delicious and nutritious, with plenty of research backing their nutrient density. One study found that eating an apple daily reduced the risk of colorectal cancer by 47%. Pair an apple with nut butter or cheese for a filling snack that's high in protein and fiber, according to Eating Well.
