A 61-year-old male patient with kidney stones went to Lam Dong General Hospital for an X-ray. The doctor mistook the X-ray results for someone else's and performed surgery to "remove a foreign object in the stomach."
On February 21, a representative of Lam Dong General Hospital confirmed that the endoscopic surgery team made a mistake when operating on the wrong patient, Nguyen Hong Hai, residing in Lam Ha district.
Patient Hai has a history of kidney stones for more than 10 years, has had surgery and lithotripsy twice. Recently, he has had pain and relapse. On the morning of February 20, his wife took him to the hospital and ordered an X-ray. By noon of the same day, the doctor informed him that Mr. Hai had a foreign object, a plastic tube about 30 cm long, in his abdomen, and needed laparoscopic surgery to remove it.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huu, Mr. Hai's wife, said that 10 days ago, her husband had an X-ray at the district medical center and there were no foreign objects in his abdomen. "Although we were a bit 'concerned', the doctor ordered an emergency surgery so the family agreed," said the patient's wife.
During the 30-minute surgery, the medical team could not find the plastic tube in Hai’s abdomen. The team then announced that they had mistaken Hai’s X-ray film for another patient and apologized.
A representative of Lam Dong General Hospital said they are clarifying the mistakes of those involved in the surgery. The hospital will refund the hospital fees, monitor his health, and visit his home to apologize.
The patient with a foreign object in his stomach also underwent surgery after the mix-up.
