Snow White praised Chau Thanh for singing a long song that was pleasing to the ears.

Among the four famous names of Cai Luong who come with the Cai Luong Academy, only Chau Thanh is the rare one to appear in the programs as a coach and judge.

But Snow White invited Chau Thanh to think about it for a reason.

Chau Thanh with his unique long-winded way of singing vọng cổ

Chau Thanh was originally a poor farmer in Tay Ninh . Having a good singing voice, his uncle invited him to pursue a singing career.

Starting at Saigon 2 Troupe, then Saigon 3 Troupe, Cao Nguyen, but most prominently when he returned to Trung Hieu Cai Luong Troupe with the hit Cai Luong play The Ma Nguu Case , co-starring with artist Phuong Hang.

Not only impressing with his leading role, what people remember most about Chau Thanh is his unique way of singing long vọng cổ.

Composer Dang Minh affirmed: "Although there are many people who sing long-winded vọng cổ, I affirm that Chau Thanh is a pioneer, creating a new, very unique, and very typical school of long-winded singing.

When you close your eyes and enjoy, you will find Chau Thanh's voice unmistakable.

Artist Le Thuy, who took care of Chau Thanh when she first started her career, commented:

"This style of singing should be called the Chau Thanh school of long-winded vọng cổ singing. There are variations and innovations but it is still within the orbit of vọng cổ songs, without deviating from the rhythm!".

Artist Bach Tuyet said: "This person is very smart. He knows how to arrange the melody rhythmically and creatively so that when he sings vọng cổ, it is pleasing to the ears!"

Perhaps because she recognized the creativity and unique singing style that Chau Thanh had worked hard to achieve, Bach Tuyet did not hesitate to invite him to join her.

In the Cai Luong Academy, Chau Thanh teaches young people the "secret" to being able to sing long vọng cổ. He revealed that he can sing up to 360 words in one vọng cổ verse!

This may seem difficult for newcomers, but it also makes them interested and helps them learn new ways of exploring vọng cổ verses that previous artists have spent decades trying to achieve.

Cai Luong Academy consists of 12 episodes, broadcast on Today TV channel and People's Artist Bach Tuyet channel from April 2024.
