This newspaper believes that Vietnam is a potential trade market for Paraguay, especially agricultural products such as soybeans and meat.
Regarding the results of the working session with Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien on May 24, Minister Gimenez affirmed that the visit will contribute to promoting and supporting the Vietnamese business delegation preparing to go to Paraguay to seek cooperation and trade exchange opportunities.
According to Mr. Gimenez, Paraguay is making efforts to find and expand new markets to export soybeans, meat and other products, especially towards member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) with a population of 700 million, including Vietnam.
Minister Gimenez also had working sessions with Vietnamese businesses, including representatives of Viettel Telecommunications Group, one of the largest telecommunications groups in Southeast Asia.
Minister Gimenez also emphasized the need to accelerate negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement between the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) and Vietnam. As the rotating chair of Mercosur in 2024, Paraguay will vigorously promote this issue.
Paraguay is one of Vietnam's 10 largest trading partners in Latin America. Trade turnover between the two countries in 2023 reached more than 280 million USD, an increase of 22.2% compared to 2022.
Vietnam's main exports to Paraguay include coffee, sports shoes, electric fans, rubber, rattan and bamboo products, ceramics, and garments, while it imports soybean meal, beef and by-products, leather, and wood.
