Ensuring safety when Thanh Lanh lake overflows

Thanh Lanh Lake - one of the large reservoirs in Vinh Phuc province (old), located at the foot of Tam Dao mountain range, with a designed capacity of over 30 million m3 of water, not only plays an important role in providing water for daily life and agricultural production but is also a famous eco-tourism destination.

As of 10:00 a.m. on August 26, due to the influence of storm No. 5, the water level of Thanh Lanh Lake has reached an elevation of +76.67m and is continuing to rise.

According to the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, Tam Dao Irrigation Company Limited, starting from 5:00 p.m. on August 26, 2025, Thanh Lanh Lake will discharge spillway to Cote elevation +75.00m, with a flow rate of 10m3/s to 50m3/s depending on the development of rain and flood.

The spillway regulation is carried out to ensure the safety of the reservoir, while maintaining water sources for production and daily life of people and limiting flooding in downstream areas.

Thanh Lanh Lake will discharge floodwaters from 5 p.m. on August 26 to continue responding to the circulation of storm No. 5.

Currently, along with the water discharge, the authorities have deployed vehicles and materials according to the approved PCTT&TKCN plan for Thanh Lanh Lake; organized blockades at culverts and spillways, ensuring absolute safety for people and vehicles during the regulation period. Localities in the downstream area are also required to proactively develop plans to respond to flooding, protecting people's lives and property.

The reservoir management board said that monitoring, patrolling and guarding at the project will be maintained 24/7 to detect and promptly handle any arising situations, ensuring the safety of the reservoir and the safety of the downstream area during the period affected by storm No. 5.
