On November 28, District 12 Police (HCMC) announced that they had prosecuted and executed arrest warrants against father and son Nguyen Thanh Tay (41 years old) and Nguyen Vu Thien T. (14 years old, both from Quang Tri , temporarily residing in Thu Duc City) for the act of "Robbery".
Previously, in the early morning of November 12, Mr. Dinh Cong D. (24 years old, from Tien Giang ) went to Thanh Loc Ward Police Station, District 12 to report a robbery.
According to the report, at 2:30 a.m. the same day, Mr. D. was driving a SH motorbike with license plate number 63G1–180XX on Ha Huy Giap Street when he was approached by two subjects on a motorbike and attacked with pepper spray.
Mr. D. drove a little further before stopping. Then, two people used electric batons to shock Mr. D., causing him to lose consciousness.
The two suspects robbed Mr. D. of his SH motorbike along with a bag containing an iPhone 11 Promax, a wallet, personal documents, and vehicle registration. When he woke up, Mr. D. went to the local police station to report the theft.
After receiving the report on the above incident, the Board of Directors of Ho Chi Minh City Police Department directed the Criminal Police Department and District 12 Police to urgently investigate and prosecute.
Through security camera footage, the police determined that Mr. D. was attacked and robbed of his motorbike and other belongings. The two perpetrators were riding a red and black Attila motorbike; after committing the crime, the two suspects escaped towards Go Vap district.
Using professional measures, the police determined the route of the two suspects. During the escape, they changed clothes and vehicle license plates to mislead the investigation.
The police found their destination was a house on Hoang Hoa Tham Street, Binh Thanh District. At this time, the two suspects were not present in the house.
Police inspected the house and discovered a SH motorbike with license plate number 63G1 – 180XX hidden there.
In addition, in the house there were also a number of other exhibits such as: 2 motorbike license plates, 2 pepper sprays, 3 electric batons, 1 wooden slingshot and 5 glass marbles.
The police ambushed and arrested the Western suspect and his son while they were in front of a nearby coffee shop. When speaking with the police, the father and son admitted to committing the robbery.
According to the suspect's statement, Tay asked his son to go rob because he needed money. Around October 2023, Tay asked his son to go online to find two fake license plates and some weapons such as electric batons, pepper spray, slingshots and glass marbles to use as tools to commit the crime.
In the early morning of November 12, Tay drove his son around many areas looking for a target to rob. When he discovered Mr. D. riding a SH motorbike on Ha Huy Giap Street, Tay drove closer while T. sat behind him and used pepper spray and electric batons to attack him.
When seeing Mr. D. collapse on the street, the father and son stole the victim's motorbike and bag containing his property and documents and escaped.
