Suspect arrested for using crossbow to kill 3 members of BBC commentator's family

Three women, aged 25, 28 and 61, were found seriously injured at their homes in the neighbourhood on Tuesday evening and despite the efforts of police and rescue workers, all three died at the scene.

Those murdered were the wife and daughter of BBC radio horse racing commentator John Hunt, who discovered his relatives murdered as he returned from work at Lingfield Park Racecourse, south London.

Police said the suspect was found in the Enfield area of ​​north London, about 17 miles from the scene of the crime. He received medical treatment after being found with injuries.

Hertfordshire Police have identified Kyle Clifford, 26, as the prime suspect. "The suspect has been arrested and no one else is currently wanted in connection with the investigation," Inspector Justine Jenkins of the local Serious Crime Unit said in a statement.

Clifford is believed to have used a crossbow and other weapons in the attack. British media reported that the suspect was the ex-boyfriend of one of the daughters. Police said Clifford was "known to the victims" and the attack was "targeted".

The BBC reported that Clifford had served briefly in the British army and was discharged in 2022. New UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper called the incident "truly shocking" and added that she had been "fully briefed".

A statement from a Home Office spokesman said Minister Cooper would "quickly review" the incident to introduce tighter controls on crossbow ownership.
