Putting the system into use right before the April 30 holiday, one of the peak periods of the year, aims to best serve passengers.
To ensure a seamless journey for passengers, Noi Bai airport has synchronously deployed a biometric system in three core areas in the flight check-in process, including: at the flight check-in area (eight check-in counters with biometrics are arranged in halls A, B and E); at the security check area, five biometric security check lanes are arranged in area C and hall E; at the aircraft exit area, biometric recognition devices are equipped at 15 gates (from gate 1 to gate 15).
According to this person, implementing online check-in procedures using biometrics throughout the entire flight process brings dual benefits to passengers, airlines and airports.
Accordingly, passengers will reduce the time spent queuing for check-in at the counter, at the entrance to the security check area, and at the boarding gate. Airlines will reduce the time and pressure for passengers to check-in at the counter; reduce the time it takes to get passengers on board. Thereby, reducing pressure on the terminal, improving the punctuality of flights, and reducing the number of airline staff.
For airports, the system helps increase throughput in security areas, reduce pressure on staff, and improve terminal operating capacity.
However, according to this person, biometric applications through the VNeID electronic identification application are not yet applicable to children who do not have a VNeID electronic identification account; people over 60 years old due to rapid changes in facial features, so biometrics are not highly accurate; people who have undergone cosmetic surgery but have not updated their identification; and foreigners who do not use VNeID.
According to the leader of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, implementing the direction of the Ministry of Construction on deploying biometric authentication and electronic authentication for passengers when checking in for flights, from June 2025, this agency has sent an official dispatch to ACV and Van Don International Airport (Quang Ninh) to develop a detailed plan for implementation.
In particular, units need to comply with the provisions of Decree No. 13/2023/ND-CP of the Government on personal data protection; coordinate with professional units under the Ministry of Public Security in checking the security and information safety of equipment and information systems before putting them into official exploitation and use; appraise and evaluate plans to ensure network security and information safety, if any...
There is a plan to authenticate the integrity and accuracy of data and information in the chip of the citizen identification card according to the instructions of units under the Ministry of Public Security.
