Child in critical condition after applying leaves to treat snake bite

On December 1, information from Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital said that patient NTTA (15 years old, residing in Trieu Son district) after 4 days of treatment for a snake bite wound, has now recovered and has just been discharged from the hospital.

Before that, patient A. was playing near his house when he was bitten by a snake on his left heel. His relatives did not take him to the hospital immediately but instead treated him with traditional medicine, applying leaves to the wound.

However, patient A's wound did not heal but became more and more serious. The area bitten by the snake was swollen, painful, and bruised, so the family took him to Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital for treatment.

Upon arriving at the hospital, the doctors examined and discovered that patient A. was suffering from a blood clotting disorder and was in a very serious condition. The doctors cleaned the wound and administered antivenom serum according to the Ministry of Health 's snakebite treatment regimen. Fortunately, patient A.'s health gradually recovered and he was discharged after 4 days of treatment.

According to information from Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital, the hospital is currently treating a 13-year-old patient bitten by a green snake with antivenom serum. The patient's health is recovering well.

Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital recommends that people who are bitten by snakes should not arbitrarily use herbal remedies of unknown origin, but should take the snakebite victim to a medical facility as soon as possible for timely treatment.

Since 2017, Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital has implemented the method of treating snake bites with antivenom serum, so patients do not need to be transferred to a higher level for treatment.
