This is the first national award organized by the Vietnam Infection Control Society (VNICS), aiming to spread effective hand hygiene practices, contributing to ensuring the safety of patients, medical staff and the community.
The assessment team of the Vietnam Infection Control Association inspected the actual hand hygiene practice at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City.

The competition was attended by major hospitals across the country, undergoing two rounds of rigorous evaluation, self-scoring according to the "Hand Hygiene Award" toolkit and direct on-site assessment. The "Excellent Hand Hygiene Award 2025" achieved by Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital comes from the comprehensive implementation of the World Health Organization (WHO) multi-modal strategy, including infrastructure:
- More than 2,000 hand hygiene points using alcohol-based solutions and soap, along with 18 standard surgical hand hygiene points.
- Communication - training: Posters, leaflets, visual documents, integrated on UMC Care, UMC Home and internal website, periodic training programs and response to World Hand Hygiene Day 5.5 have been maintained continuously since 2012 (15 programs);
- Monitoring: combining direct observation, camera application and software to ensure objectivity and timely feedback for each department/office;
- Research and innovation: Many scientific works on hand hygiene have been published in prestigious journals, affirming the sustainability of infection control strategies.
