On the morning of September 18, the Council assessed the level and ability to deploy techniques in the list of special techniques of the Ministry of Health at Hai Phong Children's Hospital. The Council reviewed legal documents, assessed the actual facilities, equipment, human resources and technical processes at the hospital.
Concluding the evaluation program, Dr. Ha Anh Duc, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management (Ministry of Health), Chairman of the Council, affirmed that Hai Phong Children's Hospital is qualified to deploy the artificial heart-lung technique (ECMO) - one of the advanced, specialized techniques in emergency resuscitation according to regulations.
The deployment of ECMO technology in medical treatment contributes to saving the lives of seriously ill patients in a timely manner, reducing the rate of referrals, and helping to save travel and accommodation costs for patients' families when they do not have to be treated at a higher level. This is also a step in line with Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW dated September 9, 2025 of the Politburo on breakthrough solutions in the work of caring for and improving people's health.
Established in 1977, Hai Phong Children's Hospital (formerly known as Hai Phong Children's Hospital) is currently a grade I specialized hospital at the city level. The hospital currently has a scale of 600 planned beds, nearly 900 actual beds, with 36 departments and a team of more than 660 officers and employees. Each year, the hospital serves more than 800,000 medical examinations and treatments for children in the city and neighboring provinces.
Over the years, the hospital has continuously invested in development, approached and mastered many advanced techniques at the Central level such as: open heart surgery, cardiovascular intervention, laparoscopic surgery for choledochal cysts, microsurgery for vascular anastomosis, continuous blood filtration, multiplex PCR testing... These techniques contribute to reducing referrals, improving treatment effectiveness and saving the lives of many serious cases.
The Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department of Hai Phong Children's Hospital alone handles many complicated cases, with the number of treatments being about 4,800/patient/year, of which about 1,200/patient are seriously ill.
