Young man seriously injured after being hit by falling cement block, almost losing his hand

On June 26, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Khanh, Head of the Department of Orthopedics and Trauma, Xuyen A Long An Hospital, said that patient T. was brought to the emergency room in a state of loss of motor function in the right elbow, jagged wounds, exposed torn muscles and broken bones, complex crushed wounds in the right wrist, blood spurting, and purple fingertips.

According to the patient's family, the patient was hit on the right arm by a block of cement falling from above. After first aid, he was immediately taken to the hospital.

Surgical team to reattach the patient's hand

Doctor Khanh said this was a serious condition, with the risk of losing the hand if the blood vessels were not sutured in time.

Immediately, the patient was transferred to the operating room for surgery. Here, surgeons cut away the crushed skin and muscles, removed foreign objects, sutured the radial artery in the wrist area, and reattached the patient's arm bone.

After surgery, the patient was monitored at the Orthopedic Trauma Department. After a week of monitoring and treatment, the wound was clean and uninfected, the hand was rosy and able to move.

Currently, patient T.'s wound is recovering well and he has been discharged from the hospital.

Doctor Khanh recommends that when people encounter an accident like the one above, the first thing to do is to provide first aid, bandage the wound, immobilize the broken bone, then quickly move the patient to the nearest medical facility.
