Blizzard's new survival game has been shut down
Accordingly, Microsoft has shocked the gaming industry when it announced the layoffs of 1,900 employees in its gaming divisions. The main target of the layoffs is the staff at Activision Blizzard - a company acquired by Microsoft in October last year for $68.7 billion, besides some employees in the ZeniMax and Xbox divisions were also affected.
"The upheaval has affected multiple teams within Blizzard, including development teams, shared service organizations, and functional departments," Xbox Studios head Matt Booty said in a memo to employees. "As part of this focus, Blizzard will stop development on the survival game project and will transition some employees currently working on it to new projects in the early stages of development."
In the announcement, Mr. Booty also confirmed that Blizzard president Mike Ybarra and design director Allen Adham will be leaving the company.
While there aren't many details about the survival game project, including its name, it's considered a rare new brand from Blizzard, as the developer has primarily focused on core franchises like Diablo, Warcraft, Overwatch , and StarCraft .
