Bryde's Whale Tracking Photos Win Heritage Photography Award Special Prize

On the afternoon of September 25, at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam (Hanoi), Heritage Magazine in collaboration with the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists opened the exhibition and awarded the "Heritage Photography Award - Heritage Journey 2025".

This is the 11th year the Heritage Photography Award - Heritage Journey is organized by Heritage Magazine of Vietnam Airlines, with professional sponsorship from the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists.

This year's award lasts for 4 months (from April 1 to July 31, 2025) with the participation of 180 authors and 445 valid photo entries (an increase of more than 34 photo entries, equivalent to 108.3% compared to the 2024 award).

According to this year's competition rules, 10 photo collections were selected to receive Special Prizes, Photo Collection Prizes, and Cover Photo Prizes in 4 categories: Culture - Heritage; Tourism - Landscape; Lifestyle - Human Portrait; Special Shooting Techniques. At the same time, the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists also awarded VAPA Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals to 3 photo collections selected from these 10 excellent photo collections.

Through the selection process, the photo series "Journey to follow the Bryde's whale in Nhon Ly sea area" by photographer Nguyen Ngoc Thien received high consensus from the Jury to receive the Special Prize for the Tourism - Landscape category and the VAPA Gold Medal.

The work “Quan họ Kinh Bắc with But Thap Pagoda” by author Nguyen Trong Hieu won the Culture - Heritage category and the VAPA Silver Medal. In the Culture - Heritage category, the work “New vitality of the basket boat craft village” by author Nguyen Khac Hao also won the Special Prize.

According to the jury, the award-winning photo collections in the Culture - Heritage or Lifestyle - Human Portrait categories are all elaborate works introducing the nation's heritage and traditional customs.

The Special Photography Techniques category featured photo collections taken using macro, flycam or underwater techniques. The photo collection “Kingfisher Hunting Moments” by author Bui Trong Nghia won the Special Photography Techniques category and the VAPA Bronze Medal.

The exhibition of award-winning works takes place at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam ( Hanoi ) from now until October 6.

The photo series won the Special Prize (Destination Tourism - Landscape category) and the VAPA Gold Medal by author Nguyen Ngoc Thien.
