Ministry of Public Security informs about cases of public concern

On the afternoon of September 29, in Hanoi, the Central Internal Affairs Committee - the Standing Agency of the Central Steering Committee on preventing and combating corruption, waste and negativity, held a working session with press agencies to announce the results of the Standing Meeting of the Steering Committee.

Information about some important results of the meeting held the same morning under the chairmanship of General Secretary To Lam , Head of the Steering Committee, Mr. Dang Van Dung, Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee, emphasized that the focus of the meeting was the results of directing the handling of cases and incidents that the Steering Committee has monitored and directed since the 28th Session up to now; the results of reviewing, handling, and inspecting works and projects that are behind schedule, have long backlogs, and are at risk of loss and waste, especially 11 projects that the Steering Committee assigned the Government Party Committee to direct handling.

According to Deputy Head of the Committee Dang Van Dung, General Secretary To Lam assessed that Party committees, Party organizations, functional agencies, and members of the Steering Committee have focused on leading and directing the serious implementation of the conclusions of the Steering Committee and the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee, especially closely following the 4 requirements and 6 tasks of the Steering Committee concluded at the 28th Session. The work contents according to the plan; the work of preventing and combating corruption, waste, and negativity continued to be vigorously implemented, achieving many positive results, contributing to building a clean and strong Party and political system and developing the country's economy and society.

Notably, focusing on investigating and thoroughly handling many cases and incidents, at the same time discovering a number of new cases of high warning nature, especially the collusion between subjects in criminal gangs and groups hiding under the guise of businesses and corrupt officials for personal gain. Directing the handling and removal of difficulties and obstacles, putting into operation and using many slow-progressing and long-standing works and projects in accordance with the direction of the Steering Committee to not let waste continue, but also not to legalize violations. Implementing increasingly substantive and effective measures to prevent corruption, waste and negativity, associated with the construction and operation of two-level local governments and promoting socio -economic development.

Also at the working session, answering questions from the press about the decision of the Steering Committee to put the case of counterfeit goods trading at Z Holding Company (producing fake HIUP milk) and the case at the Department of Food Safety (Ministry of Health) under monitoring and direction, Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan, Chief of Office, spokesman of the Ministry of Public Security, said that the investigation agency has prosecuted 10 defendants on two charges of producing and trading counterfeit food and violating accounting regulations causing serious consequences.

Regarding new developments, Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan said that up to this point, the investigation agency has seized 20 real estates, issued documents to temporarily suspend the transfer of 8 real estates of 3 suspects, temporarily detained 5 cars, seized over 50 billion VND, and ordered the freezing of 17 bank accounts and 12 securities accounts to ensure the investigation and trial.

Regarding the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health), Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan said that the investigation agency has prosecuted 29 defendants for two crimes of giving and receiving bribes. To date, the investigation agency has seized 6 real estate properties. The defendants have recovered 13.9 billion VND. The case is still under investigation and is being carried out in accordance with regulations.

Responding to a reporter's question about the case of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters construction project showing signs of waste, which has been put under the Central Steering Committee's monitoring and direction, Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan said that at present, the Government Inspectorate and the Ministry of Finance are handling the case.

"When there is a conclusion, based on the conclusion, there will be further handling," said the Ministry of Public Security spokesman.

Regarding the case of the Bach Mai Hospital and Viet Duc Hospital project, Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan said that the Ministry of Public Security has prosecuted 7 defendants on 3 main charges including: Violating State property management causing waste and loss; Fraudulent appropriation of property; Abusing position and power while performing official duties. Specific violations such as hiring foreign consultants, approving contractor selection, organizing contractor selection caused waste and damage to State property of 80 billion VND.

"The case is still under investigation to clarify the violations," said Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan.
