Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI - GenAI) is becoming more and more perfect, as evidenced by the birth and development of applications such as ChatGPT, Midjourney,... supporting people to freely create text, images, or videos , shortening the time to bring ideas to reality. Realizing the potential of GenAI, British University Vietnam (BUV) has officially brought AI tools into the classroom, with the desire to train many generations of students to use AI proficiently to support academics, and research how to use AI responsibly.
Pioneering the use of AI in students' learning
BUV encourages and guides students to use AI to optimize productivity and efficiency in the learning and testing process. BUV students are allowed to use AI in their tests at 5 levels, from no AI to using all AI tools completely. Dr. Mike Perkins - Head of BUV's Center for Research and Innovation (CRI) provides detailed instructions and suggestions for students to understand which tasks can use AI or to suggest which AI tools should be used. The process of students giving answers to assessment tests is also transparent.
BUV pioneers in allowing students to use AI in learning
After several semesters of application, students conducting AI-assisted research produced higher quality papers than those using traditional methods. Students also responded positively, responded to the training program and achieved better learning outcomes.
BUV and the goal of leading in applying AI in education
Understanding the potential of AI in shaping the future of education, BUV aims to be a leader in promoting a proactive approach and advocating for the responsible use of AI in learning and teaching.
Faced with the challenges of AI abuse as well as the problem of using AI transparently and effectively, senior lecturers of BUV in collaboration with lecturers from other universities have conducted many studies to clarify and navigate solutions for each problem. Among them is the study "Navigating the era of generative AI: Introducing an integrity assessment scale when using AI in academia", pointing out the opportunities and challenges that GenAI tools bring to education, thereby building a simple and comprehensive AI Assessment Bar that allows the integration of GenAI tools into educational assessment.

In the context of education evolving with technology, Dr. Mike Perkins wrote an article about the benefits, challenges and the need to amend institutional policies to accommodate technological advances. The doctor believes that students should not be banned from using AI in academics because it is not a sign of cheating, the important thing is whether students are honest about using AI or not.

In addition, BUV also promotes cooperation with units such as the Hanoi Department of Education and Training and the British Chamber of Commerce (BritCham) to expand the application of AI in industries and fields. At the training course for 1,200 civil servants and public employees of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training held at the end of 2023, BUV lecturers shared about digitalization in education and the application of GenAI tools. Discussion sessions at the training course focused on practical approaches to incorporating GenAI tools into teaching methods and policy making, contributing to Vietnam's development in this field.
