Mr. Ho Minh Truong, Van Lien Huong Mausoleum Management Board, said: At about 1:00 p.m. on August 2, while exploiting seafood in Lien Huong sea, about 18 nautical miles from shore, local fishermen discovered a 12-meter-long, 6-ton whale drifting at sea.

After the discovery, at about 5 p.m. the same day, people used a boat to bring the whale's body to the Ganh area near Van Lien Huong Tomb to carry out burial procedures according to local beliefs.
It is known that, according to the concept of fishermen in the sea, whales are respectfully called whale leaves. Whales often help fishermen when exploiting seafood, as well as save them when they encounter trouble at sea. The person who discovers a whale in distress must mourn for 3 years.
