The Ministry of Home Affairs officially submitted to the Government a plan for Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 for cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers of administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, socio-political organizations and workers in the business sector.
For officials and civil servants, the Ministry of Home Affairs proposed that the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday last for 9 consecutive days, including 5 Tet holidays and 4 weekly days off.
Of which, civil servants will have 5 days off according to the provisions of the Labor Code, including 1 day before Tet and 4 days after Tet.
At the same time, this group is proposed to have Lunar New Year holiday in 2026 from Saturday, February 14, 2026 (ie December 27, year of At Ty) to Sunday, February 22, 2026 (ie January 6, year of Binh Ngo). Thus, in addition to 5 days off according to the Labor Code, cadres and civil servants will have 4 more days off every week.
For employees, based on actual conditions and holiday schedules for civil servants and public employees, employers arrange appropriate Lunar New Year holiday schedules.
The Ministry of Home Affairs suggests that businesses can choose 1 day at the end of the year of At Ty and the first 4 days of the year of Binh Ngo or 2 days at the end of the year of At Ty and the first 3 days of the year of Binh Ngo or 3 days at the end of the year of At Ty and the first 2 days of the year of Binh Ngo.
Enterprises must notify employees of their Tet holiday plans at least 30 days in advance.
If the weekly day off coincides with a public holiday or Tet holiday as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code, the employer shall arrange a compensatory weekly day off for the employee on the next working day as prescribed in Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code.
The Ministry of Home Affairs encourages employers to apply the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday period for employees as the same plan for civil servants and public employees, while also encouraging more favorable agreements for employees.
To have a basis for proposing to the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Home Affairs has drafted a proposal for Lunar New Year and National Day holidays in 2026 for cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers of administrative agencies, public service agencies, political organizations, socio-political organizations and enterprises.
This plan was consulted with 13 relevant ministries and agencies. Through synthesis, 100% of the ministries and agencies that sent comments agreed with the plan proposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
