How Miss Ngoc Han tells cultural stories to the world

(Dan Tri) - Miss Ngoc Han shared her journey and motivation to promote Vietnamese culture, especially through the ao dai. She said that culture is like a "soft bridge" to connect countries.

Nearly 15 years after being crowned Miss Vietnam in 2010, Dang Thi Ngoc Han has had many activities to promote Vietnamese culture through designing and performing Ao Dai.

Miss Ngoc Han was once evaluated by the Miss Vietnam Organizing Committee members as a person with a very high sense of responsibility and always striving to fulfill the mission of a Miss Vietnam, not only during her two years in office but also after that.

Her constant efforts have contributed to creating a unique mark for the ao dai, promoting Vietnamese culture to the world .

Opportunities of Ao Dai in the current internationalization flow

Recently, in a sharing session with students of the Diplomatic Academy, Miss Ngoc Han revealed that with her love and respect for the ao dai, she has found a strong source of motivation in her journey to spread Vietnamese culture to the world.

At the end of 2024, she received an invitation to come and participate in tourism promotion activities at the Venezuela International Tourism Fair. Although she did not have a pre-order, Ngoc Han still cleverly incorporated the cultures of the two countries into the ao dai.

She said that when visiting a country that has a lot of affection for Vietnam, she wanted to convey the love and connection between the two countries through ao dai designs that bear the mark of the two countries.

The ao dai helped the beauty queen win the hearts of the participants. The Venezuelan Tourism Minister praised her, saying that Ngoc Han's love for both countries touched her heart.

At the same time, she unexpectedly received an invitation to attend a television program by the President of Venezuela, where she had the opportunity to share about the ao dai with ambassadors of various countries and spread Vietnamese identity to international friends.

"This is a great opportunity to promote Vietnamese culture," Miss Ngoc Han said.

Besides, in recent years, the trend of creating art based on cultural materials to spread respect and passion for Vietnamese culture has become more and more popular and fashion is no exception to that trend.

Sharing about this, Miss Ngoc Han said: "We can see that the Vietnamese ao dai has a minimalist design, making it easy to convey cultural meanings not only of Vietnam but also of other countries. That is an opportunity for us to turn it into a soft bridge, so that it can make our image more beautiful in the eyes of international friends."

At the same time, Miss Ngoc Han also gave examples of things to keep in mind when carrying out cultural diplomacy, to show respect for the cultures of other countries.

Family - the driving force for cultural diplomacy mission

To bring ao dai to the international level, family has become a strong source of motivation for Ngoc Han's cultural diplomacy mission. She excitedly shares about the harmony in work between her and her husband.

The beauty queen affirmed: "Culture and diplomacy are two extremely adjacent and closely related fields. Han finds that working in the cultural field and marrying a diplomat is also very suitable. From there, the two can complement and support each other and in fact, the two have worked very well together."

Ngoc Han also revealed that the two had broken up and then gotten back together. The reason they had broken up was because she was afraid that marrying a diplomat would mean that she would always have to "travel here and there" in the future, sacrificing her personal life for her husband's career.

However, she later realized that the diplomatic profession was not what she had imagined. She could easily get acquainted and balance between family and career. She said: "It was a long process and also fate because it was not for no reason that I kept going back and forth with the same person."

Recently, Miss Ngoc Han also revealed that she had good news. "The appearance of the baby at this time creates even more inspiration for my artistic creations. And it is even more meaningful and interesting because my child and I are both born in the year of the Snake," the beauty queen shared radiantly.

Ngoc Han confided that when she first found out she was pregnant near Tet, she was quite worried because she had to take care of her health but it was also at a time when she was busy with work.

But fortunately, mother and child have passed the first 3 months very healthy, even though Miss Ngoc Han still climbs 4 flights of stairs every day, even goes to photo shoots, takes a plane and recently a flight to Dubai.

She also humorously said that her luck came from her frequent confiding in her child. "I hope my child will accompany me during this pregnancy and we will have an interesting and healthy journey together," the beauty queen said.
