Cam Xuyen makes tourism a spearhead economic sector

Cam Xuyen strives that by 2025, the structure of the trade, service and tourism sectors will account for about 50% of the GRDP structure; in which, tourism - services will be the spearhead economic sector, a new driving force for socio-economic development.

Thien Cam - Central Vietnam's sea lute

Legend has it that during the reign of the 13th Hung King, during a tour of the South, the king stopped by a beautiful coastal area. At night, he stopped to rest and heard the sound of the wind blowing between the sky, clouds, mountains and water, blending with the murmuring waves of the sea like a unique symphony, so he named this place Thien Cam - meaning "heavenly harp" and wrote three words on a nearby mountain: Thien Cam Son.

Thien Cam is also associated with the legend of the tragic vestige, marking the collapse of a dynasty. In 1407, the Ming invaders invaded our country. With the enemy's strength, the Ho army was defeated, Ho Quy Ly and his son fled to this sea area and were captured. This sea area was named Thien Cam, which also means "heavenly protection". The legends about Thien Cam mountain, Cao Vong, Bat road, Ho Quy Ly cave have created both majestic and elegant features for this sea area. The beach is located between Thien Cam mountain and Dau Voi mountain, forming a crescent shape, so people often call Thien Cam the sea lute of the Central region.

In 2009, the Provincial People's Committee approved the Master Plan for the development of Thien Cam National Tourist Area at a scale of 1/5000. According to the plan, the tourist area has a total area of 1,557 hectares, spread over 4 communes and towns: Cam Duong, Cam Nhuong, Cam Linh and Thien Cam town. In addition, Cam Xuyen district has completed the plans: Ke Go Lake Eco-tourism Area of more than 4,800 hectares (2012), Cam Linh Mountain Eco-tourism Area of 179 hectares (2012), Nam Cam Xuyen Commercial - Tourism - Comprehensive Service Area of 279 hectares (2013).

Mr. Pham Van Thang - Standing Vice Chairman of Cam Xuyen District People's Committee said: "The Resolution of the 32nd District Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term determined the goal of striving to build Thien Cam Tourist Area and Ke Go Lake into key tourist destinations of the province and the country. To realize the goal, the District Party Committee issued Resolution No. 12-NQ/HU on tourism development to 2025, with a vision to 2030, to guide the district to make great strides in tourism development in 2023".

After 2 years of difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, at the beginning of the 2023 beach tourism season, Cam Xuyen district has carefully prepared opening activities and organized a variety of tourism services to attract tourists. Many new types of tourism such as building check-in points, homestay services, community experience tourism, beach clubs; establishing a club of folk artists singing Vi and Giam Nghe Tinh; launching the photo collection "Cam Xuyen Heritage and Fashion " at Ke Go Lake; organizing night culinary activities at Thien Cam Tourist Area... have increased the attractiveness of the beach tourism area.

In 2023, Cam Xuyen district will attract more than 950,000 tourists (up 72.7% compared to 2022), including: more than 170,000 overnight guests (up 41.7% compared to 2022), more than 200 international overnight guests (4 times higher than in 2022); thereby, bringing revenue to about 550 billion VND (up 57.1% compared to 2022).

This is the highest result ever for Cam Xuyen tourism. 2023 is also the year the district mobilizes social resources to renovate, promote and implement the best tourism activities. For the 2023 tourism opening event alone, the district mobilized more than 1 billion VND from social resources; other activities during the tourist season also mobilized more than 1.5 billion VND from social resources.

Making tourism a key economic sector

In order for Thien Cam to develop to the level of national tourist planning, closing the 2023 tourist season, Cam Xuyen district has invested more than 176 billion VND from central and provincial resources to renovate and build infrastructure for 3 roads with a total length of more than 4.2 km, sidewalk systems, drainage ditches, lighting, traffic safety, wastewater collection and treatment...

In particular, the district has completed the clearance of the business kiosk system along the beach and closed Thien Cam cemetery to renovate the new space for Thien Cam tourist area before the 2024 beach tourism season.

Recently, the province has agreed to allow the People's Committee of Cam Xuyen district to prepare a report proposing the investment policy to build Dan Troi bridge with a total budget of about 180 billion VND. The district is proposing the province to approve the policy of renovating and embellishing Cam Son pagoda and rebuilding the residential road connecting Bac Thien Cam and Nam Thien Cam. These will be new attractions for both tourists and investors in 2024.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phu - owner of Thien Cam Homestay said: "In 2023, I will invest nearly 6 billion to build 16 homestay rooms in Thien Cam tourist area; connect tours and routes to bring tourists to experience community tourism activities in Cam Nhuong fishing village, Song Rac lake (Cam Lac commune), Ke Go lake (Cam My commune), Cam Linh beach (Cam Xuyen) - Ky Xuan (Ky Anh district)... In the first year of operation, Thien Cam Homestay has made a profit. Hoping for tourism breakthroughs in Cam Xuyen district, in 2024, I will build another homestay to welcome the excitement of this potential tourist area".

Cam Xuyen is striving to have the trade, service and tourism sector account for about 50% of the district's GRDP by 2025; in which, tourism - services will be the spearhead economic sector, a new driving force for socio-economic development in the 2020-2025 period. Besides Thien Cam tourist area, the district also has many strengths in tourism development such as: Ke Go lake, Temple of late General Secretary Le Duan, Relic Site of late General Secretary Ha Huy Tap...
In the coming time, the locality will continue to pay attention to investing in tourism infrastructure; building transport infrastructure to connect tourist destinations; promoting and attracting investment; improving the quality and diversifying tourism services; enhancing promotion and connecting tours and routes... to attract more tourists from all over the world to Thien Cam in particular and the famous landscapes and landscapes of Cam Xuyen in general.
