On September 27, the 1st Congress of Can Tho City Party Committee, term 2025 - 2030, officially held its session with the motto "Solidarity - Democracy - Discipline - Breakthrough - Development".

Attending the congress were Politburo member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man; Politburo member, Head of the Central Organization Commission Le Minh Hung; representatives of central departments, ministries and branches, and 484 delegates representing 143,000 party members of 109 party committees under the Can Tho City Party Committee.

According to the political report, in the 2020 - 2025 term, the resolutions of the Party Congresses of the three localities of Can Tho City, Soc Trang, and Hau Giang (before the merger) were implemented in a context of many advantages and challenges. However, with high determination, the three localities have achieved positive and quite comprehensive results in all fields. Specifically, Can Tho City (old) achieved and exceeded 15/20 targets (the remaining 5 targets are to be achieved in 2025), Soc Trang province (old) achieved and exceeded 17/20 targets, Hau Giang province (old) achieved and exceeded 18/18 targets.

During the 2025 - 2030 term, the Can Tho City Party Committee strives to achieve 28 targets. Of which, 8 are economic targets; 7 are social targets; 4 are environmental targets; 3 are infrastructure development targets; 3 are Party building and political system targets and 3 are national defense, security and foreign affairs targets. In that spirit, the city has identified 5 key tasks, 3 breakthroughs and 10 groups of solutions to be implemented during the term.

The city must have a long-term vision.

However, besides the progress, limitations still exist in Party building work, cadre capacity has not met requirements, economic development has not been commensurate with potential, the city's specific policies have not been effective, the central position of the Mekong Delta region has not been clearly affirmed, and administrative reform has not been drastic...

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that Can Tho (after the merger) has many advantages and potentials that few other places have. Because the city has a system of roads, waterways, airways, seaports, and especially a unique river culture, dynamic and friendly people. Therefore, the requirements for the city must be higher and more comprehensive than other localities. And therefore, the city Party Committee must have a vision not only for a few years or a term, but must look further, longer term, with appropriate ways and steps for each specific stage.

Can Tho must strongly develop special tourism, promote the brand of "river city" to become an attractive international destination.

According to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, the prerequisite for the development of Can Tho City is to build a clean and strong Party and political system. This comes from selecting and arranging the right cadres. Stronger actions in preventing corruption, negativity and overcoming limitations and weaknesses. As the center of the Mekong Delta, Can Tho must take the lead in all fields. In particular, strongly developing special tourism, promoting the brand "Can Tho - river city", becoming an international destination need more attention.

In particular, Can Tho must study and recommend the Central Committee to summarize Resolution 59 on city construction and development until 2030, with a vision to 2045. Proactively study and propose amendments and supplements to Resolution 45 of the National Assembly on piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies for city development. Especially in promoting the development of science and technology, innovation; learning from the development models of major cities in the country, the region and internationally. Can Tho must become a major scientific research center of the region, must digitally transform, and apply artificial intelligence synchronously in the entire political system and among the people.
