North Korea's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) quoted a spokesman for the country's Defense Ministry on December 2 as saying that Pyongyang will respond to any interference by Washington in space by eliminating the viability of US spy satellites.

"In case the US tries to infringe upon the legitimate activities of a sovereign state by illegally and unjustly weaponizing the latest technologies, the DPRK will consider taking counter-action measures for self-defense to weaken or destroy the viability of the US spy satellites," the statement issued a strong warning.
The statement said any interference in North Korea's satellite activities would be considered a declaration of war, stressing that North Korean law stipulates that the country will launch a deterrent war if any attack on Pyongyang's strategic assets occurs.
Earlier, on November 21, North Korea successfully launched its first military spy satellite designed to monitor military activities of the US and South Korea.
The launch immediately heated up tensions on the Korean Peninsula, causing Pyongyang to face much criticism.
Asked whether Washington has the ability to disrupt North Korean satellite reconnaissance operations, a spokesman for the US Space Command said the country can deny its adversaries space capabilities through a variety of means.
Following the launch, the US also imposed additional sanctions on North Korea, targeting foreign entities accused of helping Pyongyang evade sanctions to generate revenue and acquire technology for its weapons program.
