Colonel Nguyen Thai Duong, Deputy Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 4 Command; leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho city; local leaders and 400 students, teachers and local people attended the program.
The program was organized with many practical activities such as: Propagating and disseminating the law to more than 200 officials and people; distributing more than 1,000 leaflets, 200 propaganda handbooks, 150 law books, giving 500 national flags, 50 photos of Uncle Ho and 100 gifts (each worth 1,000,000 VND) to policy families in the area. Thereby contributing to raising people's awareness of sea and island sovereignty and regulations on preventing illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing; strengthening military-civilian solidarity, building a solid national defense posture and people's security posture at sea.
The highlight of this activity is the "I love my homeland's sea and islands" contest in Can Tho city with the participation of 100 outstanding students. The contest is organized in two rounds: The online contest is held from September 17 to September 21, 2025, attracting more than 10,300 registrations and the live contest round takes place at the Hall of the People's Committee of Vinh Chau commune.
According to the leader of the Coast Guard Region 4 Command, through the contest, it aims to widely disseminate knowledge about the history of building and defending the country of the Vietnamese people, the traditions of the People's Army, the Vietnam Coast Guard, the traditions of the locality in the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland; regulations of Vietnamese and international laws on seas and islands; knowledge about preventing and combating drugs, school violence, etc.
Speaking at the contest, Deputy Political Commissar of the Coast Guard Region 4 Command Nguyen Thai Duong emphasized that the contest is not only an opportunity to raise awareness of the role and strategic position of the sea and islands in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, but also a useful and interesting playground for students to express their love for their homeland and country, especially for the sacred sea and islands. Through the contest, we hope to arouse in each student the pride and sense of responsibility of the young generation in protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands and maintaining security and order at sea."
On this occasion, the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 awarded 80 scholarships (each worth 1,000,000 VND) to students in difficult circumstances, supporting them on their path of study; and presented many gifts to poor households in the coastal area of Can Tho. The contest organizers also awarded Thach Hoang Nam, a student of class 7A4, Lai Hoa Secondary School - High School, for his excellent performance in winning first prize in the contest "I love the sea and islands of my homeland".
