Difference of 0.25 points after review, high school graduation exam results will be adjusted

At exactly 8:00 a.m. on July 16, examination councils nationwide will announce the exam results for nearly 1.17 million candidates taking the 2025 High School Graduation Exam. All candidates have the right to review their exam if they are not satisfied with their scores.

After receiving the results, according to the regulations, all candidates have the right to have their exam scores reviewed. Therefore, if you have any concerns or are not satisfied with your exam scores, you can submit an application for review at the place where you registered to take the exam.

The place where candidates register for the exam will receive the candidates' appeal requests within 10 days from the date of announcement of exam scores and transfer the data of candidates with appeal requests to the Examination Council.

Within 15 days from the deadline for receiving appeal applications, the Examination Council must announce and notify the candidates of the appeal results.

According to regulations, the Secretariat will look up from the registration number to find the number of the essay test or multiple choice answer sheet of the candidate who has requested to be re-evaluated and at the same time withdraw the test paper, compare it with the test collection form to check. Collect the test papers that need to be re-evaluated according to each test/subject of the exam.

For the Literature test, each test will be re-marked by two examiners. The examiner marking the re-mark will use a different color ink pen than the one used to mark the candidate's test.

For essay tests graded by two examiners, if the two examiners' grading results are the same, that result will be used as the re-examination score.

In case the scoring results of the two review examiners are different, the exam paper will continue to be drawn and handed over to the leader of the Review Board to organize for a third officer to directly score the candidate's exam paper with a different color ink.

If the scores of two out of three review judges are the same, the same score will be used as the review score. If the scores of all three review judges are different, the leader of the Review Board will take the average score of the three scores rounded to two decimal places as the score returned to the candidate.

Also according to the regulations, if the exam score of the re-examination differs from the first announced score by 0.25 points or more, the candidate's score will be adjusted.

In case the re-examination score differs from the first round score by 0.5 points or more, a direct dialogue must be organized between the first round judges and the re-examination judges and a record must be made. If there are any negative signs, it must be reported to the leader of the Re-examination Board for handling according to regulations.

For multiple-choice tests, the Ministry of Education and Training also has regulations on specific scoring procedures for councils to apply.

The multiple-choice test review team enters the list of review candidates into the multiple-choice test scoring software.

Then compare each answer filled in on the multiple choice answer sheet with the scanned image saved in the computer and the recognition result on the computer. If any discrepancy is found, the cause must be clearly identified and handled; print the scoring results from the scoring software before and after error correction to save the records.

The review data is exported from the software, recorded on two identical CDs, sealed under the supervision of the supervisory team, the police, and a record is made, signed by the leader of the Review Board.

The Supervisory Team must directly, regularly and continuously supervise all stages of the multiple-choice test review process.

In previous years’ High School Graduation Exams, at the end of the exam, at the Examination Councils, there were always a number of candidates requesting to have their exam papers reviewed. In fact, there were exams with increased scores that were adjusted.

For example, in 2020, at the Ha Tinh Examination Council, a candidate had his Social Science combination score adjusted up to 22.5 points (from 14.75 to 37.25), the reason being that he filled in the wrong exam code. Or there were also cases where the exam scores were adjusted because the print quality of the multiple choice answer sheets was not consistent, leading to the scanner not being able to recognize them correctly.

The 2025 High School Graduation Exam will have nearly 1.17 million candidates taking the exam. After the exam scores are announced, by July 22 at the latest, candidates will receive a certificate of exam results and a temporary graduation certificate; by August 8 at the latest, high school graduation will be considered after a review.
