Official announcement of the presidential election winner, the US sends congratulations

On the evening of March 20, the Indonesian National Election Commission (KPU) announced the final official vote count results of the presidential election held last month, according to which Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto was the winner.

AP reported that according to the vote count in 38 provinces in the country, Mr. Prabowo Subianto and his running mate, Vice President candidate Gibran Rakabuming Raka, won 58.58% of the votes.

The pair of former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and candidate Muhaimin Iskandar came in second with 24.94% of the votes, while the support rate for the pair of candidates Ganjar Pranowo, former Governor of Central Java province, and his running mate Mahfud Md. was 16.46%.

In terms of foreign constituencies, the rankings of the three pairs of candidates remained unchanged, with Prabowo Subianto's pair outperforming the next pair by more than 300,000 votes.

In total, the Prabowo-Gibran candidate pair received 96,304,691 votes, the Anies-Muhaimin candidate pair received 40,971,726 votes while the Ganjar-Mahfud candidate pair received 27,041,508 votes.

According to the Indonesian Election Law, in case of a dispute regarding the determination of the voting results, the candidate pairs can file an objection to the Constitutional Court within a maximum of 3 days after the official results.

Indonesia's president and vice president-elect are expected to take office on October 20.

Reuters reported that after the official results, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken sent congratulations to Mr. Prabowo Subianto.

"We extend our sincere congratulations to Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto on his victory and again applaud the people of Indonesia for their strong voter turnout," Mr. Blinken said.
