Faced with the risk of smuggling, trade fraud and illegal transportation of goods across the border becoming complicated before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025, the Provincial Customs Department has proactively and synchronously deployed drastic solutions with high determination to prevent smuggled and banned goods from entering the country through the border gate.
Customs officers coordinate to check vehicles entering through Na Meo International Border Gate (Quan Son).
Accordingly, since mid-November 2024, the Provincial Customs Department has deployed a plan to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods before, during and after the Lunar New Year. In particular, the Department's leaders have assigned specific tasks to departments, professional teams and border customs branches to synchronously and effectively implement solutions to strictly manage customs operation areas, proactively control the situation, detect, combat, prevent and promptly and strictly handle acts of smuggling, trade fraud, illegal transportation of goods across the border, the purchase, sale, transportation and storage of prohibited goods, smuggled goods, counterfeit goods and goods infringing intellectual property rights. Absolutely do not let the management area become a hot spot for smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across the border.
At the same time, units are required to ensure compliance with legal regulations during the implementation process, not affecting or hindering normal production, business, import and export activities of organizations and individuals in accordance with regulations. Promote the spirit and responsibility in preventing and combating corruption and negativity of civil servants and employees in performing their duties, especially leaders. Proactively organize forces, concentrate resources, and synchronously deploy professional measures to inspect, supervise, and control customs, in order to promptly detect and handle violations in accordance with legal regulations...
Deputy Head of Nghi Son Port Customs Branch Do Van Thang said: "In order to effectively organize the peak of the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025, the branch has been actively reviewing, evaluating, classifying and identifying key and focal enterprises and goods, subjects with signs or suspicion of smuggling and trade fraud, applying appropriate customs control measures. Similarly, the Thanh Hoa Port Customs Branch and the Na Meo International Border Gate Customs Branch are focusing on synchronously and effectively implementing professional measures to effectively carry out the peak of the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods before, during and after the Lunar New Year. In particular, focusing on collecting information, grasping the situation, patrolling, controlling, determining areas and routes for transporting goods and key items; strictly controlling imported and exported goods, transit goods, and luggage of passengers entering and exiting the country. Key transport routes are identified on both roads, sea routes and outside the border gates. While key items under strict control include: goods with high tax rates, used specialized vehicles, drugs, weapons, currency, goods traded under the form of temporary import and re-export, fireworks of all kinds, cigarettes... Notably, subjects trading in prohibited goods and smuggled goods use tricks such as breaking up goods, transporting them by motorbikes, passenger cars, light-duty vehicles from the border to the domestic market, often operating late at night, on holidays, and on Tet holidays...
According to Mr. Hoang Minh Giam, Captain of the Customs Control Team (Provincial Customs Department), in addition to focusing on implementing professional customs control measures, the team has arranged forces to patrol, control, and grasp the area to promptly combat and prevent smuggling and illegal transportation across the border of prohibited goods, counterfeit goods, poor quality goods, and goods that affect security, order, and social safety. At the same time, coordinate with customs branches at border gates to strengthen strict control of imported, transited, temporarily imported for re-exported, temporarily exported for re-imported, and transited goods, especially consumer goods and essential goods to serve the increased demand before, during, and after the Lunar New Year, focusing on key routes and goods.
In the context of the increasing volume of import and export goods, the number of vehicles entering and exiting the border gates in the province is increasing, especially before, during and after the Lunar New Year. Customs agencies must make efforts to solve the "double challenge", both simplifying procedures, facilitating trade and strengthening the fight against smuggling and trade fraud. Therefore, the peak of the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods before, during and after the Lunar New Year is a practical action, not only contributing to ensuring security, order, protecting consumer rights, but also contributing to transparency, health of the market, improving national competitiveness.
