On the afternoon of September 16, speaking at the closing session of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, Mr. Duarte Pacheco - President of the Inter- Parliamentary Union (IPU) shared that he wanted to say 5 words of thanks.
On behalf of the IPU Executive Board and delegates attending the Conference, Mr. Duarte Pacheco sincerely thanked the Vietnamese National Assembly and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue for their thoughtful and active organization and warm welcome to all delegates.
“ All the efforts of Vietnam and Mr. Vuong Dinh Hue have helped us have this successful Conference ,” the IPU President emphasized.

Second, IPU President Duarte Pacheco sent his thanks to all the speakers and parliamentarians whose experiences and profound understanding strongly inspired the discussions at the conference.
Mr. Pacheco also thanked the delegates for their contributions to the discussions. He stressed that their deep knowledge and experience had greatly inspired the discussions.
The IPU President's fourth thank you goes to the interpreters, who helped make the conference a success but whose role is sometimes forgotten.
Finally, the IPU President also expressed his thanks to each delegate attending the Conference, including those who spent 20-30 hours flying to attend the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians taking place in Hanoi .
Emphasizing that there is still much more to do after the conference, Mr. Duarte Pacheco believes that the participation of young parliamentarians in the IPU and the IPU agenda will be even more active, much more because young people have a lot of potential, a lot of knowledge and a lot of strong commitment to promoting sustainable development for all. The participation and work of young parliamentarians will increase in the future.
IPU President Duarte Pacheco emphasized and noted that the results of implementing the sustainable development goals so far are still very limited, only reaching 12% of the set target, 15 goals are behind schedule. He stated that in the next 7 years, there is a lot of work to do to ensure sustainable development for humanity.
The IPU President said this was everyone's job, and pointed out that parliamentarians were in a more leading position.
“ As parliamentarians, we need to deliver on our commitments to a better future for the world. We must be leaders, otherwise we are just politicians. We cannot be leaders if we do not work hard to change the status quo and work towards better outcomes, ” he said.
Accordingly, the IPU President suggested that it is necessary to connect youth and policy to their communities to achieve social progress; allocate more budget to support young businesses; and promote science and innovation for sustainable development to improve understanding and digital capacity for youth.
“ We need to take concrete actions and consider our agenda as a guide for all young parliamentarians to participate in realizing ”, the IPU President emphasized, while also pledging that the IPU is ready to support young parliamentarians in implementing their commitments at this Conference.
“ We cannot afford to delay any longer. Let us work hard together to implement what we have committed to, to do what must be done. We have every right to be proud of our work ,” said IPU President Duarte Pacheco.
