Speaker of the House of Representatives Tan Sri Dato' Johari bin Abdul highly appreciated the significance of the first visit to Malaysia by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man .

The visit contributes to promoting cooperation between the two legislative bodies, effectively implementing the Vietnam - Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as well as making an important contribution to the success of the 46th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-46).

Malaysia's chairmanship of ASEAN and AIPA comes at a time when ASEAN is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the founding of the ASEAN Community and preparing to enter a new phase of development.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man highly appreciated Malaysia's role and contributions as Chair of ASEAN and Chair of AIPA.

Vietnam will support Malaysia to successfully assume the role of ASEAN Chair 2025 and AIPA-46 Chair to build a united and unified ASEAN that plays a central role in the region.

The two sides were pleased with the positive and substantive developments in bilateral relations, especially the milestone of upgrading relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during General Secretary To Lam's visit to Malaysia in November 2024.

The two countries need to create more favorable conditions for economy, trade and investment to soon achieve the target of 18 billion USD in trade turnover in a more balanced direction, focusing on potential fields such as Halal, renewable energy, green energy, digital transformation, agriculture, tourism, education and training.

The two sides will promote maritime cooperation and effectively coordinate in handling illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities, creating conditions for the European Union (EU) to soon remove the yellow card on Vietnam's fisheries industry.

The two sides also agreed to enhance people-to-people exchanges, especially among the younger generation, to not only foster the friendship between the two countries but also for the ASEAN community.

The two leaders agreed to promote cooperation on parliamentary channels; share information and experience in building and perfecting a suitable legal framework, creating favorable conditions for implementing new contents and areas of cooperation within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The two sides will step up cooperation in monitoring the effective implementation of international treaties and cooperation agreements signed between the two governments.

The Vietnamese National Assembly and the Malaysian Parliament will continue to closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums such as AIPA, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum, etc.

Also this morning, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man held talks with President of the Malaysian Senate Dato' Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.

The President of the Malaysian Senate warmly welcomed National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, assessing the visit as an important milestone.

The National Assembly Chairman's participation in AIPA-46 demonstrates Vietnam's commitment to working with ASEAN Parliaments to build a "Sustainable and Inclusive" ASEAN Community, united, self-reliant, and continuing to play a central role in the regional structure.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy of valuing and wishing to effectively implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Malaysia, in order to meet the interests of the two peoples and contribute to building a united, strong and united ASEAN.

Vietnam supports the theme “Sustainability and Inclusion” of ASEAN 2025, closely coordinating with Malaysia - Chair of ASEAN 2025, Chair of AIPA-46 and member countries to implement the proposed priorities.

The two sides also discussed law-making. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man informed about the amendment of the Constitution, law-making, streamlining of the apparatus, merging of provinces and the two-level local government model.

The two sides appreciated the strong development and close ties between the two countries over the past 50 years, including the upgrading of relations.

In the context of many fluctuations in the world political and economic situation, the two sides agreed to continue to support and make more efforts to promote the implementation of cooperation directions.

In particular, expanding economic, trade and investment cooperation, removing some legal bottlenecks to create conditions for Malaysian investors to increase investment in Vietnam, developing Halal industry as well as coordinating to solve the problem of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and enhancing people-to-people exchanges.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man asked Malaysia to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live and work in Malaysia as well as treat Vietnamese fishing vessels and fishermen in a humanitarian spirit.
