Dedicated "vocational school" teacher, pioneer in innovative teaching methods

Becoming one of the three teachers of Ha Tinh to be recognized as a national outstanding teacher and manager in 2023 is a great honor for Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga (Thach Ha Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center). This is also a motivation for the young teacher to make more efforts on the path she has chosen.

After 11 years of working with students at the Center for Vocational Education - Continuing Education (VET), Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga (born in 1990) increasingly realizes that her choice is very correct and appropriate.

Female student Nguyen Thi Nga came to the pedagogical industry by chance, because at that time her family situation was very difficult, her father passed away early. Nga chose the Physics Pedagogy major - Ha Tinh University to be close to home, to encourage her mother and save costs. Graduating from university with honors (in 2012), Nga accepted a job at the Center for Continuing Education and Vocational Training in Thach Ha district. Here, due to the low student input, in order to create attraction and appeal in each lesson, teachers had to constantly research and be creative.

Her concern is the motivation for every student in learning.

In 2020, while searching online, the young teacher accidentally came across the STEM education method. This is one of the teaching methods that is in line with the innovation trend when combining theory with practice, bringing lessons into life, and promoting students' abilities. The more she read, the more attracted and intrigued she became.

To realize her determination to apply the STEM method to teaching, she registered for this course and learned more from her senior colleagues and information channels. Along with using new teaching techniques, in 2020, Ms. Nga applied the STEM method to Physics classes. Ms. Nga also became one of the first teachers in the Vocational Education and Training system to apply this new teaching method.

STEM activities have promoted students' creativity and capacity in each class.

By exploiting students' strengths and putting the knowledge in textbooks into practice, the creative experience hours have really attracted students to the lectures. From there, many research products have been completed such as: catapults, long-range water rockets for the 2021-2022 school year; mini speakers from recycled materials, egg beaters, smartphones for the 2022-2023 school year; especially Ngoc An soap products made from nature won 3rd prize in the 2022 provincial creative startup idea competition. Those products have really created excitement for students in every class.

Nguyen Minh Thanh, class 12A, Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center of Thach Ha district, said: “Promoting students’ abilities and strengths in each lesson, especially creative and research products, has helped us find our strengths and develop them. We also feel more confident and focused in each lesson.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga received a certificate of merit from the Ministry of Education and Training at the ceremony to honor exemplary teachers and managers in 2023.

The young teacher's innovative teaching methods have not only created changes in students' learning, spreading the innovation movement among teachers, but also helped her win first prize in the provincial competition for excellent teachers of the continuing education program for high school students in the 2022-2023 school year.

During 11 years of working with the center's students, Ms. Nga has received many certificates of merit and awards in her profession, in researching startup ideas, and in union work. What makes her happiest is the students' interest in the lessons, and their trust and love. And for her, the meeting between friends and colleagues at the ceremony to honor outstanding teachers and managers nationwide in 2023 is the most beautiful memory in her teaching career. It is an opportunity for her to exchange and learn, to have more motivation to strive and contribute to the career of educating people.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga is a young and enthusiastic teacher, always eager to learn and research, a pioneer, contributing to spreading the movement of innovative teaching methods of the center. She is also an energetic and enthusiastic union officer, website administrator and manager of the school's teaching software system, electronic learning materials and information technology. In addition to her professional competence, she is also enthusiastic in helping colleagues, caring for and being close to students, so she is trusted and respected by students and parents.
