Daughter holds special wedding ceremony, being the bride next to mother's recovery bed

(Dan Tri) - The special wedding ceremony took place right in the Intensive Care Unit, when the mother was moved to witness the moment her child became a bride right at the hospital bed.

Recently, at the Intensive Care Unit, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, a special wedding ceremony took place.

Not in a lavish banquet hall - but right in the hospital room - the mother fighting death emotionally witnessed the sacred moment when her child became a bride.

That moment became even more emotional when retold on the occasion of Vietnamese Family Day (June 28).

Bride NTL emotionally shared: “I originally planned to hold the wedding at the end of the year. But when my mother’s health rapidly changed, the family proactively asked for support from the hospital to capture the moment that my mother had always longed for, to see her daughter get married.

I thought if I waited any longer, I would be too late. This was one of the rare times my mother was most alert and cheerful since being in the intensive care unit. She opened her eyes, looked at us, smiled gently and held my hand, as if she was giving all her love, trust and advice to me on our wedding day.

Even though there was no grand banquet, no formal wedding procession, no complete ancestral rituals… but to me, it was the most beautiful, most sacred wedding because my mother, in her final moments, was still by my side."

According to Ms. L., the photo of her mother looking at her daughter with eyes sparkling with joy and peace is the most precious photo in her life. It is also a memory that the bride will keep forever and consider it a miracle, when her mother was able to see her daughter's happiness, even if it was only for a brief moment in her life.

The patient's family believes that the ceremony is a source of spiritual encouragement, giving the mother more strength to be more optimistic during the treatment process. Ms. L. affirmed that she still believes that her mother will overcome it.

Dr. Bui Thi Hanh Duyen, Head of the Intensive Care Unit, said that medical staff understand that seeing their child get married is a sacred thing for a mother.

Therefore, when receiving the request from the family, the team of doctors, nurses and social workers of the hospital tried every way to organize the wedding ceremony solemnly while ensuring the safety of the patient.

The balloons and the words “Love” at the head of the bed were a warm backdrop for the moment the bride in her red ao dai bowed her head next to her mother. As for the patient, despite her poor health, she still held her child’s hand and smiled, sending her blessings through her eyes.

"If that moment helps the patient feel more complete, that is the most precious thing we can preserve with the family. Medicine is not just about drugs or techniques, sometimes, understanding and sharing are the strongest spiritual medicine," Dr. Duyen confided.
