According to Education New Zealand (ENZ), New Zealand universities have announced new flexible entry requirements to facilitate Vietnamese students.

Accordingly, many universities in New Zealand such as Canterbury University, Massey University, Otago University and Waikato University will accept predicted scores of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and A-Level (Cambridge Advanced) programs for admission and issue unconditional offers to candidates. You do not need to wait until the official exam scores are available.

According to ENZ, this new mechanism allows students to apply earlier as soon as they have their predicted score, thereby being more proactive with both main admission periods of New Zealand universities in February and July every year.

At the same time with the unconditional offer, candidates can apply for a student visa and prepare early for their study abroad journey.

ENZ also announced a new point in the admissions process for New Zealand universities for Vietnamese students. Many universities accept admission based on the transcript scores of the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training instead of candidates having to wait until they have their high school graduation exam results to be able to apply for admission.

In particular, New Zealand universities directly admit Vietnamese 12th grade students based on their academic records, regardless of whether they study at specialized or non-specialized schools.

Some major universities in New Zealand such as the University of Canterbury, Massey University and the University of Otago also accept direct admission based on Year 12 transcripts. The required GPA for admission is 8.0 or higher.

However, to complete the admission procedure, candidates still need to ensure that they have completed the high school graduation exam for the program of the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training. The exam results must be submitted to New Zealand universities according to the specific deadlines of each school.

Students who have graduated from Year 12 but do not meet the required GPA for entry can still enter New Zealand universities through the Foundation or Diploma programs.

The Diploma program lasts one year and is equivalent to the first year of university. Students who complete this program are awarded a Diploma certificate, which qualifies them to continue directly into the second year of university with suitable programs, while still ensuring the optimal time to complete the bachelor's degree (about 3 years).

In addition, the university preparation program is also available for Vietnamese students who have completed Year 11. Vietnamese students can enroll in New Zealand university preparation programs and then transfer to university.

Mr. Ben Burrowes - Regional Director of Asia of Education New Zealand (ENZ) - said: "The new mechanisms clearly demonstrate the flexibility and competitive advantage of New Zealand universities in the international arena, while creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese students to pursue study opportunities in New Zealand."
