The Royal Irrigation Department of Thailand said on September 26 that due to heavy rains and continued flow from the north, they will gradually increase the water discharge rate of the Chao Phraya Dam (Chai Nat province) from the current level of 1,498 m3 /second, but limit it to no more than 2,000 m3 /second, Bangkok Post reported on September 27.
The affected areas are residential areas located outside the flood protection dykes along the banks of the Chao Phraya River in the following provinces: Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Suphanburi, Lopburi, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan and Bangkok.

The release of floodwaters will cause water levels in the Phong Pheng Canal (Ang Thong province), Bang Ban Canal and Noi River (Ayutthaya province) to rise by 1 to 1.5 meters. The rising water levels may also cause canals and tributaries to overflow.
The Thai Department of Irrigation reported that as of 7:00 a.m. on September 26, the water level at station C2 (Muang district, Nakhon Sawan province) had increased by 21 cm compared to the previous day, but was still 3.29 m lower than the bank. The flow rate at this station was 1,846 m 3 / second.
At station C3, also known as Chao Phraya dam, the water level rose slightly compared to September 25 but was still 3.52 m lower than the bank. The flow at this station was 1,498 m 3 / second.
Nation TV reported on September 26 that flooding caused by the overflowing Ping River in Mueang district, Chiang Mai province was even worse than in 2011.
Heavy rains in the Ping River flooded residential and commercial areas in Mueang district on the night of September 25, including San Pa Khoi market, Charoen Prathet neighbourhoods and Night Bazaar. At least 2,000 households are expected to be affected by the floods, especially those in and around Night Bazaar, where water levels exceeded 1 meter.
