On the morning of October 31, Mr. Le Thuan Van, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thai Thuy Commune (Le Thuy District, Quang Binh Province) said that the commune government is reviewing regulations to prepare a dossier to request recognition as a martyr for Mr. Le Ngoc Hon - who was swept away by floodwaters while helping people avoid floods during the recent floods.
In addition, the Commune Youth Union has also completed the dossier to propose the Central Youth Union to posthumously award the "Brave Youth" badge to Mr. Hon.
"After reviewing the regulations, if appropriate, we will prepare a dossier to propose recognizing Mr. Hon as a martyr," said Mr. Van.
Mr. Hon is a member of the shock troops of Thanh Son village, Thai Thuy commune. On the afternoon of October 27, the floodwaters rose rapidly, and the local government issued a notice requesting shock troops to go to the flooded areas to help people evacuate their belongings.
After that, Mr. Hon and two other young men waded across a spillway to support households on the other side, but unfortunately all three were swept away by floodwaters.
Two people were lucky to swim to shore. Mr. Hon was missing until the next morning when he was found 200 meters away from the accident site.
It is known that Mr. Hon is only 22 years old, joined the military service and was discharged in January 2024.
Mr. Hon is considered a gentle young man, enthusiastic in supporting the community.
