On the morning of September 30, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced the list of 24 players for the Vietnam national team. There were many notable names, starting from the goalkeeper position, when Dang Van Lam (Ninh Binh Club) was called back while Nguyen Filip and Nguyen Dinh Trieu were not present.
The two reserve goalkeepers for Dang Van Lam are Nguyen Van Viet (The Cong - Viettel ) and Tran Trung Kien (Hoang Anh Gia Lai). All three players have played very well for their respective clubs after the first phase of V-League 2025 - 2026.
In the defenders, midfielders, and strikers, besides the familiar names, Coach Kim Sang Sik made a revolution when promoting a series of players from the Vietnam U23 team that just won the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship and won a ticket to the 2026 Asian U23 Finals.
These names include defender Nguyen Hieu Minh, Nguyen Nhat Minh, midfielder Nguyen Xuan Bac. These are 3 completely new faces of the Vietnamese team.
Some other players of U23 Vietnam who were previously called up to the national team are also named, including goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien, midfielder Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Phi Hoang, striker Nguyen Thanh Nhan and Nguyen Dinh Bac.
The upcoming two matches between Vietnam and Nepal on October 9 and October 14 will certainly be an opportunity for Mr. Kim to test the squad with new players of the Vietnam team. This is also a preparation step for the U23 Vietnam players towards the SEA Games 33 taking place in December.
