TOP confirmed to return in the fall, will there be a chance to 'confront' Big Bang?

Twelve years after his hit Doom Dada, TOP has confirmed his return this fall with a solo album. The music videos will be directed by Emmy-winning art director Squid Game.

On September 30, The Korea Herald reported that former Big Bang member TOP will officially return to the music scene with a solo album in the fourth quarter of this year. This will be his first solo music product in 12 years, since the hit Doom Dada released in 2013.

Notably, TOP's new MVs will be directed by Chae Kyoung Sun - the art director behind the success of Squid Game . The two previously collaborated when TOP acted in part 2 of the film.

"T.O.P.'s studio album is scheduled to be released around October or later. All recordings have been completed, and he is currently preparing to film some music videos. Squid Game's art director will be in charge of the visuals for the project," a source told The Korea Herald.

In fact, TOP has repeatedly hinted at his return to the music scene. In November 2024, when asked by a fan about his solo plans, the rapper briefly replied "2025" on his personal Instagram. In June this year, he confirmed his return to music in an international interview during the promotion of Squid Game 2.

After leaving YG Entertainment and ending his activities with Big Bang in 2021, TOP has been working independently, not under the management of any company. Recently, there were rumors that he was negotiating an exclusive contract with Kakao Entertainment, but the company denied this information.

TOP was embroiled in controversy in 2016 when he was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended, for using marijuana while serving his mandatory military service as a conscripted police officer. He was later transferred to community service instead.

After the incident, the male rapper announced his retirement from the entertainment industry and removed himself from the group Big Bang. However, at the end of 2024, TOP unexpectedly appeared in Squid Game 2 , marking his return after a long period of hiding.

In an interview in January, TOP opened up about his past: "In my 20s, I received so much love and acclaim. Living in that spotlight, I made huge mistakes and completely collapsed mentally. Until now, I still feel ashamed and always remind myself to reflect.

Every time I go into the studio, I feel like I'm really alive. I've been working non-stop and creating so much music. I believe now is the right time to share it with the world ."

Regarding the reason for leaving Big Bang, the male rapper explained that it was because of "a feeling of guilt that was too great, not wanting to harm the members".

Previously, on September 23, Big Bang's representative confirmed that the group would perform at Coachella 2026 and begin a series of activities to celebrate their 20th anniversary, raising expectations that the group would release a new album later this year.

If that comes true, fans will have the opportunity to witness the "confrontation" between Big Bang members on the music track.
