According to the National Tourism Administration, the No. 4 experience route spans Cao Bang city, Thach An district and Quang Hoa district. This is a place with many geological heritage sites reflecting a long-term evolutionary process with complex geological fluctuations hundreds of millions of years ago.
Ban Gioc Waterfall is one of the "specialties" of Cao Bang tourism.
Specifically, it is the fault activity, the transformation process of the earth's crust from oceanic crust to continental crust; the Karstization process creates impressive Karst landscapes, mainly mature Karst landscapes (clusters of valley peaks, Karst blind valleys, saddles...) with "old" characteristics with a full range of different terrains, giving visitors surprises when learning about geological heritage sites.
In the Cao Bang city area, archaeologists have found traces of a river - lake - swamp environment that existed about 28 - 38 million years ago, with a diverse and rich flora and fauna.
Typical fossils such as coral fossils (Thuy Hung commune, Thach An district), and strata holes (Le Lai, Thach An district) were discovered, demonstrating the long geological process of an area that was formerly a sea, then uplifted. At Khau Khoang pass (Thai Cuong commune, Thach An district), the product of volcanic eruptions on the ocean floor is a knee-shaped basalt outcrop.
The experiential tour route “A time of fire and flowers” is associated with the legend of the fiery Route 4; the bravery of our army and people created the Border Victory in 1950. Tourists will visit the 1950 Border Victory relic complex - a testament to the brilliant leadership of President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap in the resistance war against the French colonialists. In particular, Bao Dong mountain peak is the place that marked the first and only time Uncle Ho went directly to the front. On the route, there is also a heritage site to pay tribute to the loyal communist soldier, an outstanding son of Cao Bang Hoang Dinh Giong.
In addition, the experience route also takes visitors to the traditional sugarcane village of Bo To (Quang Hoa district); along with that is the rich biodiversity typical of the Van Trinh heritage forest (Thach An) and many rare native seedlings such as black jelly, Dong Khe pear, tangerine, fragrant squash...
Experts from UNESCO Global Geopark and Vietnam Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources surveyed the ancient underwater volcanic geological heritage of Khau Khoang Pass, Thai Cuong Commune (Thach An District, Cao Bang Province).
Mr. Truong The Vinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Cao Bang province, said that the 4th experience route has integrated heritage sites; connecting Cao Bang city with tourist routes inside and outside the province. This tourism product also helps to effectively exploit National Highway 4A, the vital traffic route connecting Cao Bang with Lang Son and the provinces of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong...; connecting visitors with the 1950 Border Victory National Monument, cultural and geological heritage values. Especially the most typical manifestations of the Cao Bang - Tien Yen deep fault zone...
