Suspension of operations at American International School

The Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has just issued a decision to suspend the educational activities of the American International School Vietnam (commonly known as the American International School) from July 1. The suspension period will last 12 months.

Specifically, on June 28, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, issued a decision to suspend the educational activities of the American International Primary, Secondary and High School located at 220 Nguyen Van Tao, Long Thoi Commune, Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City.

The reason for this decision is that the American International School falls under the case of suspension of educational activities as prescribed in Point b, Clause 1, Article 50 of the 2019 Law on Education and Point b, Clause 1, Article 30 of Decree No. 46/2017/ND-CP, due to not ensuring the conditions for permission to operate educational activities. Specifically: there are not enough financial resources as prescribed to ensure the maintenance and development of educational activities; the number of management staff is not enough to implement the educational program and organize educational activities. Suspension period: 12 months from the date the decision takes effect.

Also according to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, during the suspension period, if the cause of the suspension is resolved, the Department of Education and Training will consider and issue a decision to allow the American International School to resume educational activities. However, after the suspension period ends, if the American International School fails to resolve the cause of the suspension, the Department of Education and Training will develop a plan to dissolve the school and submit it to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to issue a decision to dissolve the school according to regulations.

In addition, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City requires AIS American International Education Joint Stock Company and American International School Vietnam to be responsible for developing and implementing measures to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of students, teachers, administrators and staff of American International School Vietnam. Specifically, for students: Implement appropriate solutions, ensure the learning rights of students, do not let students' learning be interrupted; have solutions to stabilize the psychology of students and their parents.

For teachers, managers and employees, it is necessary to ensure the implementation of policies and regimes agreed with employees in the signed labor contract. Ensure full implementation of regulations on the use of foreign workers according to the 2019 Labor Code, Decree No. 152/2020 and Decree No. 70/2023 amending and supplementing a number of articles of Decree No. 152/2020.
