'Leverage' from loan sources to solve employment

Providing loans to enable people to do business and develop their family economy is one of the important policies, contributing to stabilizing their lives and reducing poverty sustainably. In particular, the source of employment from the Social Policy Bank has become a "lever" to help many households borrow capital to expand production and business, increase income and improve the quality of life.

Many years ago, Mr. Nguyen Cao Tri and Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Hang (Hoa Thanh ward, Tay Ninh province) came together when they were "empty-handed". At that time, both families were still in difficulty, so they had to live on relatives' land. Both did many jobs to make a living. He sold plastic products, picked coconuts, and drove a pedicab; she stayed at home, weaving, and raising chickens, ducks, pigs, etc.

By saving up, the couple was able to buy a piece of land. Tri and Hang worked hard day and night, and finally had enough money to build a house.

“To save money, I built the house myself, building a little bit every day. I was lent VND8 million by the local Social Policy Bank to build a clean water and sanitation project. About 20 years ago, VND8 million was a huge amount of money for our family,” said Mr. Tri.

At first, the weaving job was for hire, but from around 2019, the couple started to work on their own, taking on weaving bamboo trays for rice paper factories. The work was going well, and Tri and his wife hired more people to help with many stages.

“To meet the needs of blast furnaces, in order to have capital for production, in recent years, I have borrowed 20 million VND from the Transaction Office of Hoa Thanh Social Policy Bank to buy more bamboo and rattan for production. With the bank loan at low interest rates, my wife and I have more money left over to buy raw materials, so we have a little more profit,” said Mr. Tri with a smile.

Ms. Hang and Mr. Tri got a loan to buy materials for weaving.

Thanks to the support capital from the Social Policy Bank, over the past years, the family of Ms. Tran Vo Thi Bao Chau (born in 1973, Long Thanh quarter, Hoa Thanh ward) has gradually stabilized their lives. Ms. Bao Chau said that before, her husband worked as a car mechanic, she worked as a seamstress, although the income was not much, it was enough to cover the family's food expenses and save a little to build a house.

“My husband and I built a house for 20 million VND. At that time, thanks to a loan of 8 million VND from the local Social Policy Bank from the clean water and environmental sanitation fund, my family had a brick house. Although it was not plastered, it was still clean with a toilet and a clean water system,” Ms. Chau confided.

Life became even more difficult when the children reached school age. Although she sewed day and night, the output was not much because Ms. Chau used a traditional single-needle sewing machine. Seeing that her life was still difficult, the Women's Savings and Loan Group of Long Thanh Ward guided her to borrow 30 million VND from the job creation loan source of the local Social Policy Bank.

With money, she invested in buying a modern industrial sewing machine with many functions, which can both sew and cut thread, with higher productivity than before. Thanks to that, she can earn 200-300 thousand VND per day.

After paying off all her debt in installments, she recently borrowed another 50 million VND to invest in buying an overlock sewing machine and opening a small water shop at home.

“I pay by installments. Every month, I contribute 1 million VND to a savings account with interest. After 12 months, I will pay the principal in one lump sum. Thanks to paying in installments like this, I can pay off my debt and take care of my family. If I borrowed from outside, no one would let me pay in installments,” Ms. Chau said with a smile.

As of the end of August 2025, the Hoa Thanh Social Policy Bank Transaction Office had a total outstanding loan balance of more than VND 556.5 billion, of which the job creation capital source supported about 1,100 households with loans of about VND 203 billion./.
