Dong Hung: Humanitarian month, giving love

Responding to the humanitarian month of 2023, the Red Cross (RC) at all levels in Dong Hung district has deployed many meaningful activities to arouse love, calling on people to actively participate in charitable and humanitarian activities as a "command from the heart" to multiply good deeds in the community.

The house of gratitude of Mrs. Tran Thi Sa, Trong Quan commune, supported by the Red Cross Society of Dong Hung district is almost completed.

This year's humanitarian month in Dong Hung district began with a medical examination for more than 200 elderly people in Dong A commune. Mr. Doan Minh Duc, 93 years old, said: This time I had a prolonged cough without knowing what disease it was. Luckily, a doctor came to examine me and said I had a sore throat and gave me free medicine for treatment. I also received advice from the doctors on how to eat, sleep, move, especially how to treat and prevent sore throat and some common diseases of the elderly to live long and healthy. I was very excited and felt secure in following it.

As for children in difficult circumstances like Nguyen Thu Thao, class 1A, Dong Phong Primary School, Dong Quan commune, born without the care and love of a father, mother and three children had to stay in the house of grandparents, the gifts and encouragement from the district Red Cross Association, commune leaders, school board... showed great concern for her.

Thu Thao shared: I am very happy to receive gifts from my teachers and uncles. I will try my best to study well so as not to let them down. In the same class as Thao, Dao Thi Thu Trang also received rice, school supplies, and candy from the Red Cross Association at all levels, the Party Committee, the government, and the school. This will be an encouragement for them to overcome difficulties and continue going to school.

When talking about the situation of Mrs. Tran Thi Sa, 75 years old, Trong Quan commune, the neighbors all sympathize. For the past several decades, Mrs. Sa has lived in a tiled-roof house that has seriously degraded. Her dream of a solid house to avoid the sun and rain in her old age has become a reality when the District Red Cross Association connected and supported her with 60 million VND. The spacious flat-roofed house will be inaugurated this May.

Mrs. Sa shared: I have many illnesses and live alone, so I have no place to rely on in my old age. Thanks to the support of all levels, sectors, especially the District Red Cross Association, along with the help of my relatives, I have been able to build a solid house. Having a solid place to live, no longer having to worry about the sun or rain, especially during storms, I am very excited.

To ensure timely funding support for the poor, victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, people with sudden accidents, and people in difficult circumstances, in the humanitarian month of 2023, Red Cross associations at all levels launched a call to build a humanitarian fund across the province, continuing to strengthen the mobilization of attention from Party committees and authorities in the development of association organizations and the movement "Good people, good deeds - joining hands to build a compassionate community" to promote kind actions, contributing to building a cultural lifestyle and promoting humanitarian values in the community.

Mr. Lai Minh Chinh, Chairman of the Red Cross Association of Dong Hung district, said: This May, we will organize the inauguration of 1 house of gratitude, support funding for the construction of new houses, repair 2 houses of gratitude, give gifts to some students in difficult circumstances; organize free medical examinations and medicine for over 1,000 elderly people in difficult circumstances in some communes. Coordinate with social organizations to organize more meaningful humanitarian activities. All levels of the association continue to survey and make a list of humanitarian addresses to organize timely assistance and support. Strengthen propaganda and promote the voluntary blood donation movement. The goal in this year's humanitarian month is for all levels of the Red Cross Association of the district to strive to mobilize resources of 200 - 300 million VND to support 300 - 500 humanitarian addresses; support 70 humanitarian addresses that the Red Cross Association is sponsoring; support 1 poor student overcoming difficulties with 1 million VND/month. Mobilizing funds to support the construction of a school toilet worth 500 million VND and many other practical activities...

The timely support and assistance activities that the Red Cross chapters at all levels in Dong Hung district are carrying out not only play a good role in connecting benefactors to the unfortunate lives but also spread noble deeds in line with the theme of the humanitarian month: "From the heart of each of us - joining hands to build a compassionate community".
