Tan Son Commune strives for sustainable poverty reduction

In recent years, Tan Son commune has made remarkable progress in sustainable poverty reduction and increasing people's income. Thanks to the drastic participation of the Party Committee, the government and the cooperation of the community, many households have gradually escaped poverty and become rich legitimately.

Identifying income improvement as a key factor in sustainable poverty reduction, Tan Son commune has promoted economic restructuring, prioritizing the development of agricultural, forestry and livestock production sectors suitable to natural conditions. The commune has implemented many effective livelihood models, typically the model of raising breeding cows, beef cattle...

One of the typical examples of escaping poverty is the household of Mrs. Ha Thi Vong in Chieng area. Previously, Mrs. Vong's family was among the poor households in the commune, their income mainly depended on a few fields, so life was difficult. In 2020, through the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, Mrs. Vong was supported with a breeding cow; was instructed on techniques for caring for and preventing diseases for cows... Up to now, the mother cow has given birth to 5 healthy calves, and Mrs. Vong's family has escaped poverty.

The model of raising breeding cows has helped Mrs. Ha Thi Vong's family escape poverty sustainably.

Along with Mrs. Vong's family, there are currently dozens of other households in the commune that have escaped poverty thanks to raising cows. Many households that were once near-poor have now become well-off, actively sharing their experiences in developing livestock with local people. Taking advantage of the large hilly and forest land, Tan Son commune encourages people to develop models of economic forest planting, fruit tree planting and safe agricultural production. The combination of diverse livelihoods helps people reduce risks, improve production efficiency, and gradually build a solid household economy.

The commune government proactively connects support resources such as the Fund for the Poor, agricultural and forestry extension programs; coordinates with the Social Policy Bank to create conditions for poor households to borrow preferential loans. Along with that, mass organizations launch movements to help each other develop the economy, provide technical support, and consume products. The consensus and joint efforts of the entire political system have created a strong motivation for people to overcome difficulties, change their production mindset, and escape poverty.

Another important highlight is that Tan Son commune pays attention to investing in infrastructure serving production and life. Many inter-regional and intra-field roads have been solidified, convenient for transporting agricultural products and trading goods. Electricity, clean water, schools and medical stations have been upgraded, contributing to improving the quality of life and encouraging people to stay long-term with their homeland. Up to now, the commune's poor households have decreased to 13.02%; near-poor households 7.89%; the rate of solidified commune roads has reached 85%; the rate of collection and treatment of solid waste in concentrated residential areas has reached 85%; the rate of workers with regular jobs has reached 89.17%. These figures not only reflect the efforts of the local government and people but also show the right direction in sustainable socio-economic development.

Comrade Nguyen Van Hai - Vice Chairman of Tan Son Commune People's Committee affirmed that the goal of sustainable poverty reduction can only be achieved when people are truly proactive in improving themselves. The commune government continues to accompany the people with specific policies, while encouraging well-off households to help poor households. The success of each household is the foundation for the overall development of the commune. Tan Son continues to expand suitable livelihood models, focusing on models of breeding cows, growing fruit trees, and planting economic forests so that all people have the opportunity to increase their income, towards a prosperous and happy life.
