In Can Tho city, the Vietnam National Industry and Energy Group ( Petrovietnam ) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the O Mon IV Thermal Power Plant (NMNĐ) at the O Mon Power Center.

O Mon IV Thermal Power Plant has a capacity of 1,155 MW, using new generation combined cycle gas turbine technology, high efficiency, fuel economy and environmental friendliness.

It is expected that by the end of 2028, when the gas source is brought ashore, the plant will be completed and generate commercial electricity. When operating, O Mon IV Thermal Power Plant will increase the total electricity capacity managed and operated by Petrovietnam to more than 9,300 MW - equivalent to about 10% of the total capacity of the national power system.

This is a clean, stable source of electricity, increasing the reliability of the power system and directly meeting the increasing demand of the Mekong Delta - an area that lacks local power sources.

Petrovietnam donated 5 billion VND to support social security in Can Tho city.

For the Mekong Delta region, the establishment of the O Mon Power Center not only ensures a stable power supply but also opens up new development momentum, promotes supporting industries, logistics services, domestic manufacturing and installation, creating more jobs and economic growth opportunities.

From the Block B gas field offshore the Southwest to the O Mon Power Center, Petrovietnam is realizing the national Gas - Electricity value chain, opening a new chapter for Vietnam's energy security and sustainable development.

Ribbon cutting ceremony for the inauguration of Unit 1 of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion Project.

Also this morning, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) inaugurated Unit 1 of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Extension, Vinh Yen Transformer Station and connecting lines in Phu Tho province; and simultaneously started construction of the Tri An Hydropower Plant Extension project in Dong Nai province. These are all key energy projects, aiming to increase the capacity of electricity supply, especially during peak hours; improve the efficiency of the national power system operation...

The Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion Project, built in Hoa Binh Ward, Phu Tho Province, is the largest hydropower expansion project in Vietnam today, with 2 units, total capacity of 480MW (2 x 240MW), average annual electricity output of about 490 million kWh. Total investment is more than 9,220 billion VND.

The rotor of Unit 1 of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project was successfully installed on July 6, 2025.

In the overall results of the project, the role of LILAMA 10 Joint Stock Company stands out in the installation packages that are decisive to the completion of the generator's power generation. Mr. Bui Binh Nhuong, Construction Site Commander of LILAMA 10 contractor, said that the unit undertakes the installation of all pressure pipes, hydro-mechanical equipment and electro-mechanical equipment. This is a series of tasks that require high precision mechanical construction capacity and experience, inter-sectoral coordination and construction organization in narrow space and complex weather conditions.

Up to this point, in parallel with Unit 1, LILAMA 10 is mobilizing human and material resources to work in 3 shifts continuously to deploy the construction and installation of Unit 2 (reaching about 30% of the volume) including: Turbine complex, generator, working wheel installation, electrical equipment... to be ready for the power generation target at the end of the year, thereby maintaining the overall progress of the project.

As for the 500kV Vinh Yen transformer station and connecting lines, this is a level 1, group B energy project, built in Binh Tuyen commune, Phu Tho province. The project has a total investment of more than 1,000 billion VND, the scale of the new construction of the 500/220/35kV transformer station includes 2 900MVA transformers, each transformer is connected to a combination of 3 single-phase transformers, capacity 300MVA.

The project, once completed, will be of great importance in meeting the growing load demand of the Phu Tho province power system; creating strong links between areas in the power system, increasing the ability to operate safely and stably for the national power system.

The power source project that EVN started construction on this occasion is the Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion, built in Tri An commune, Dong Nai province, ranked as a Special Project, Group A.

The total investment of the project is about 3,965 billion VND. With an expected annual electricity output of about 113.1 million kWh, the project will contribute to ensuring electricity for the South and the whole country in the coming period. At the same time, it will create conditions to promote local socio-economic development, contributing to ensuring national energy security.

According to plan, the project will generate electricity from unit 1 in the third quarter of 2027, and complete the entire project by the end of 2027.
