Driving force of economic restructuring

Looking back at the economy of Quang Nam province and Da Nang city before the merger, we can see that the growth rate is quite good, the economic structure has clearly shifted towards increasing the proportion of key economic sectors such as tourism, services and trade. Key economic growth

In recent times, Da Nang city (old) and Quang Nam province (old) have been successful with many large-scale festivals and events attracting tourists. According to statistics, in the period of 2020 - 2025, the number of guests served by accommodation establishments in Da Nang city (old) is estimated to increase by 34%/year, Quang Nam province is estimated to increase by 42%/year; the average of the two localities is estimated to increase by 37%/year.

In addition, thanks to the many incentives in terms of mechanisms and policies, many large investors have recently come to Quang Nam province and Da Nang city to invest in large-scale, specialized industrial projects. The added value of Da Nang city's industry in the period of 2020 - 2025 increased by 5%/year, Quang Nam province increased by 6.4%/year. In total, the two localities increased by 5.9%/year.

Da Nang City focuses on developing infrastructure systems, forming modern, synchronous high-tech zones, industrial zones, and industrial clusters. Quang Nam Province focuses on developing Chu Lai Open Economic Zone to become a driving economic zone of the region and the whole country.

Currently, the Chu Lai - Truong Hai Auto Complex is on par with the regional scale. Meanwhile, the total industrial production value in the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone accounts for more than 60% of the industrial production value of the old Quang Nam province.

The agricultural, forestry and fishery economic sector in the 2020-2025 period is oriented by the two localities for sustainable development associated with tourism services and service exploitation. Farmers and businesses in the area are increasingly applying high technology, thereby increasing productivity and quality of goods.

Agriculture, forestry and fishery have shifted to large-scale commodity production thanks to land accumulation and concentration. Fortunately, agriculture has applied VietGAP, organic, multi-value integration, environmental protection and climate change adaptation methods. Forestry development is associated with the protection and development of natural forests, stabilizing the ecological environment, and improving the quality of large timber plantations.

In mountainous areas, the development of medicinal plants is increasingly extensive, with Ngoc Linh ginseng being the main plant, bringing great economic value. Meanwhile, the OCOP program is developing in depth, forming groups of typical OCOP products such as Morinda officinalis, Codonopsis pilosula, glutinous rice, peanuts, etc.

Affirming the role of management

The 2020 - 2025 period, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, has made it difficult for the two localities to develop their economies. The "guiding principle" in the management, leadership, and organization of Quang Nam and Da Nang city (formerly) is to synchronously implement the "dual goal" of both controlling and overcoming the impact of the pandemic and restoring, expanding, and developing the economy.

The two localities have expanded their economic scale in association with renewing the growth model towards promoting the role of key sectors such as services and tourism, exploiting the potential of the marine economy. The mark is that labor productivity has been improved in association with investment efficiency and increased economic competitiveness.

The average GRDP growth of Da Nang city at 6.82%/year and Quang Nam province at 4.6%/year in the 2020-2025 period is not high, but it recognizes the efforts of the two localities in reviving the economy deeply affected by the pandemic.

The development of Quang Nam province and Da Nang city in the period of 2020 - 2025 cannot fail to mention the role of promoting the exploitation of resources for development investment. The total development investment capital of Da Nang city reached 175,124 billion VND (up 1.3%/year); Quang Nam province reached 189,636 billion VND (up 10%/year); the average increase of the two localities was 5.6%/year.

The two localities have promptly implemented Resolution No. 57 dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation. Da Nang City prioritizes issuing policies to support the development of semiconductor microchips and artificial intelligence; establishing the Da Nang Center for Research and Training in Microchip Design and Artificial Intelligence, thereby creating new growth momentum.

Quang Nam province and Da Nang city have actively removed difficulties and obstacles, creating conditions for investors to complete investment and construction procedures to implement projects, and unleashing resources for development.

During the 2020-2025 term, despite facing many difficulties and challenges, the two localities have promoted their tradition of solidarity, creatively and flexibly implemented solutions, overcome the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, regained economic growth momentum and achieved many important results. The two localities have had many bright spots in removing obstacles, unlocking resources, and expanding development space.

At the same time, effectively implement solutions to improve the investment environment, promote innovative startups, and effectively carry out planning and investment in developing synchronous economic and social infrastructure as a driving force to promote economic and social development and achieve many results.

Focus on industrial development

Industry is playing a very important role in the development of the new city of Da Nang. In the period of 2025 - 2030, the city aims to develop the information technology, electronics, telecommunications, and semiconductor industries associated with the digital economy, energy industry, and renewable energy.

Da Nang will form concentrated information technology zones, a chain of software parks, digital technology enterprises with global competitiveness, creating links in research to master technology and manufacture digital technology products.

The city is researching and developing a software park in Tam Ky ward; promoting investment in an international fiber optic cable station, connecting the international submarine fiber optic cable to the city. Focusing on developing the Central region's mixed gas turbine project associated with industries in the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, creating a new development momentum for the south of the city and the key economic region of the Central region.

According to the alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Da Nang sets a target of increasing the industrial production index by 5-6%/year in the period 2025-2030; developing the industrial - construction sector to account for 28-30% of the GRDP structure. The city strives to develop high-tech industry, processing and manufacturing industry, and supporting industry according to a green and sustainable model.

Creating mechanical, electrical and electronic products in the direction of circular economy associated with accelerating the implementation of ecological industrial zones; researching and developing Halal industry (products and services for Muslims).

Linking Chu Lai Open Economic Zone with Dung Quat Economic Zone (Quang Ngai) to form a key coastal industrial center of the region. Building Da Nang into a national center for automobile and multi-purpose mechanical support industry, a center for deep processing of silica products in the Central region.

According to Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Nam Hung, as the dynamic economic center of the Central region, Da Nang always attaches importance to expanding regional connectivity and effectively exploiting geo-economic advantages in the global value chain.
