Having just set a record as the locality with the largest hawthorn flower forest in Vietnam, Son La is becoming a favorite destination, attracting a large number of tourists from all over to visit and experience the beautiful flower season here.
Hawthorn flowers (also known as cat apple flowers) begin to bloom in February. The flowering season lasts about a month, in which Nam Nghiep village (Ngoc Chien commune, Muong La district) is considered the "capital" of hawthorn flowers.
In mid-March, when hawthorn flowers are in full bloom, many tourists do not hesitate to travel long distances to Nam Nghiep to admire the pure beauty of this mountain flower.
Hawthorn flowers have 5 petals, yellow pistils, and are not as white as plums, apricots, and pears, but rather ivory. Most hawthorn trees are very tall, so to get beautiful pictures, tourists are willing to climb to the roof, "hunting" for a series of photos with "million dollar views".
Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy Loan (31 years old, from Phu Tho, currently living in Hanoi ) just had a trip to see hawthorn flowers in Nam Nghiep village on March 20. At this time, the flowers have begun to fade, young leaves and fruits have grown, only a few trees are still in bloom.
“There are many areas with beautiful trees and impressive shooting angles but no flowers. Therefore, to have satisfactory photos with many different angles, we have to find a unique location and choose a unique shooting location,” said Ms. Loan.
A female tourist from Hanoi also said that although she was afraid of heights, she was encouraged by people around her and thinking of the beautiful check-in photos at the end of the hawthorn flower season, she boldly tried climbing to the roof to take pictures with the flowers from above.
"In Nam Nghep village, there are many homestays located right under the canopy of ancient hawthorn trees. Most of these trees are very tall, so many tourists have come up with the idea of climbing onto the roof to take close-up photos, capturing the blue sky behind and the sharp beauty of the late-season hawthorn flowers," Loan added.
According to this female tourist, to climb up, they had to use a bamboo ladder because the roof was actually quite high. Below, the homestay owner was always on duty to keep the ladder steady and ensure the safety of the tourists.
Although it looked a bit risky, Ms. Loan said, "At first I was a bit nervous, but after climbing up I felt less scared because the roof behind the house was quite flat and not steep."

The 31-year-old girl suggests that, in addition to choosing a "million-dollar view" angle on the roof, visitors can set up tables or stack high chairs to get satisfactory photos. In some homestays, the owners also decorate miniature landscapes, swings, etc. for tourists to comfortably check-in and take photos with hawthorn flowers.
Currently, the hawthorn flowers in Son La are gradually fading and starting to bloom. If you come here at this time, you can change your plan and head to Moc Chau to see the Bauhinia flowers at some places where Bauhinia flowers are planted in large numbers, blooming evenly and beautifully such as the Trade Union Hotel, Hoa Ban sub-area, Moc Ly High School, etc.
Or you can choose to go to Moc Chau Square to check-in with the blooming bougainvillea trellis.
