On the afternoon of August 16, hundreds of tourists came to the Nghinh Phong Tower Square to visit and take photos. Many people were surprised by the "giant" tuna made from coconut shells by artisan Pham Hong Bao (47 years old, owner of Binh SVC coconut handicraft establishment).
Ms. Le Thanh Tra (40 years old, tourist from Nha Trang ward, Khanh Hoa) said: "The tuna is very elaborately made. Everyone knows that the specialty of the old Phu Yen province is ocean tuna, so this is also a very typical symbol when placed here."
Mr. Dima (33 years old, Russian tourist) and his friend came to take pictures with the tuna, then used Google Translate to understand the product description.
"A very unique handmade product, we really like products made from natural materials," said Mr. Dima.
Artisan Pham Hong Bao said the work will be displayed at Nghinh Phong Tower Square from August 16 to 20. It will then be displayed at the Dak Lak Culture, Tourism and Cuisine Week (from August 27 to September 2) and then transferred to the Dak Lak Museum.
"The work has only been displayed here for the first day, but many visitors are very interested in coming to see and take pictures. Many people even stop to read the notes introducing the work and many are surprised to know that this is the most suitable product to celebrate the cooperation between Phu Yen and Dak Lak provinces and the September 2nd holiday," said Mr. Bao.
Mr. Bao shared that placing the artwork in the Nghinh Phong Tower square not only creates a highlight and check-in point, but also introduces typical local handicraft products and the craftsmanship of the artisans.
According to him, the tuna sculpture made of coconut shell is 2.8m high and 3.8m long, has a relatively strong bearing capacity, and is sprayed with waterproof material so it is not much affected by the weather.
15 stages were created by him and the artisans over 3 months.
In addition to the main image of a tuna fish, on the wave-shaped base holding the fish there is a motif of the Nghinh Phong Tower representing eastern Dak Lak and the communal house representing western Dak Lak. In addition, there are also gongs, wine jars, Lac birds, the sun...
