The latest data from the General Statistics Office released on the morning of December 29 showed that the number of international tourists to Vietnam in December 2023 reached nearly 1.4 million, an increase of 11.2% compared to the previous month and up to 93.9% compared to the same period last year. In the whole year of 2023, the number of international visitors to our country reached 12.6 million, 3.4 times higher than in 2022, far exceeding the plan of 8 million visitors. However, this number is still only 70% compared to 2019 - the year before the COVID-19 outbreak. At the same time, the number of Vietnamese people traveling abroad in 2023 was 5 million, double that of the previous year. Of the total 12.6 million international visitors, air travel accounted for 86.9%. Revenue from accommodation and catering services in 2023 is expected to reach VND673.5 trillion, accounting for 10.8% of total revenue and increasing by 14.7% over the previous year. Revenue from tourism is expected to reach VND37.8 trillion, increasing by 52.5% over the previous year. This is explained by the active implementation of tourism products and cultural and sports activities by localities to stimulate tourism demand. Specifically, tourism revenue in 2023 in some localities has grown significantly, such as Da Nang increasing by 133.8%, Ho Chi Minh City increasing by 68%, Hanoi increasing by 47.5%, Hai Phong increasing by 41.9%, Can Tho increasing by 29.1%... In December 2023, the number of Vietnamese people leaving the country was 352.1 thousand, an increase of 23.2% over the same period last year. In total, in 2023, the number of Vietnamese people leaving the country reached 5 million, double that of the previous year. The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism also announced the success of the National Tourism Year 2023 in Binh Thuan with many national and international events; tourism revenue increased significantly and Binh Thuan entered the list of 9 localities with the highest tourism revenue in the country. 2023 also witnessed the image of Vietnamese tourism being enhanced and positioned more clearly on the world map, along with increasingly improved global competition. The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism won the title of "Asia's Leading Tourism Management Agency" for the fourth time at the World Travel Awards. At the same time, many Vietnamese tourism destinations and businesses were also honored in many other international award categories. Currently, the country has 3,921 international travel businesses (up 34.3% compared to 2022) and 37,331 licensed tour guides; 573 tourist attractions, 64 provincial-level tourist areas and 7 national-level tourist areas have been recognized.
