The website, expected to go live in early 2026, is seen as one of the key initiatives to deliver on Mr. Trump’s pledge to reduce health care costs – one of the top concerns of American voters.
During the announcement in the White House Oval Office on September 30, President Trump affirmed that TrumpRx will act as a direct channel between consumers and pharmaceutical companies, eliminating the role of intermediaries that have been criticized for driving up drug prices in the US market. The website is expected to link to online sales portals of major pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer, to provide drugs at significant discounts.
The announcement came as part of a landmark deal between the White House and Pfizer Inc. that would see the world ’s largest pharmaceutical company exempted from tariffs for three years in exchange for increased investment in U.S. manufacturing and lower prices for most basic health care drugs sold through states’ Medicaid systems. Pfizer said the move could save patients an average of up to 50 percent on drug costs.
TrumpRx.gov will prioritize serving uninsured patients, who are the group most burdened by high drug prices, according to senior officials quoted by NPR and the New York Times. The full list of participating pharmaceutical companies is not yet known, but the Trump administration has said it has reached "similar agreements" with several other companies besides Pfizer.
The initiative is tied to the “Most Favored Nation” (MFN) executive order, which requires pharmaceutical manufacturers to offer Americans prices no higher than in other markets, and to establish direct-to-consumer distribution channels.

Observers say TrumpRx is not only economically significant but also politically significant, as drug costs have always been a controversial topic in US presidential elections. While Democrats have pushed for comprehensive health care reform for years, Mr. Trump has chosen an approach that focuses on price competition and eliminating middlemen.
However, the plan has also faced questions from health and policy experts. Some worry that applying it only to the uninsured will create an inequity gap, while it is unclear how the monitoring mechanism will ensure that pharmaceutical companies actually meet their price reduction commitments. In addition, the risk of relying too much on certain trade agreements could make the initiative unsustainable in the long term.
Despite the skepticism, the Trump administration has touted TrumpRx as a “revolutionary” step in its effort to make medicine more accessible and affordable for millions of Americans. The website, expected to launch in 2026, will be a key test of the effectiveness of Trump’s strategy of “reducing health care costs through market forces.”
