Building a new home in a difficult area

To achieve the goal of no more temporary or dilapidated houses, localities in Thai Nguyen province are currently focusing on accelerating construction progress, especially in highland communes and extremely disadvantaged areas. This is one of the key tasks after the administrative unit merger, demonstrating the determination of authorities at all levels in improving the quality of life for the people.

The family of Mr. Hoang Dinh Quang, in Group 9, Na Ri Commune, is bustling these days preparing to move into a new house. This has been the couple's dream for a long time but they have not had the conditions to make it come true. With support of 60 million VND from the temporary housing removal program, Mr. Quang decided to borrow more and work hard to have a more spacious and solid home. The joyful atmosphere is evident on every face.

Family members decorated the house, prepared dishes, and people who lived far away also came to congratulate. The new house was not only a change in residence but also opened a new, more solid start for the future. Mr. Quang confided: The support from all levels and sectors helped me to be more determined to do it. With a new house, the whole family will focus on economic development to escape poverty.

According to statistics, the entire Na Ri commune has 146 households implementing the temporary housing elimination program. Of these, 43 houses have been completed, 89 are under construction and 13 have not yet started. The time pressure is great, the spirit of participation of the government and people is very urgent.

Ms. Nong Thi Anh Tho, Chairwoman of Na Ri Commune People's Committee, said: After merging communes and operating the government according to the new model, we have completed the Steering Committee, continued to send staff to regularly inspect and encourage households to start construction, complete, and commit to completing on schedule.

In Phu Thong commune, the work of removing temporary houses is also being carried out synchronously. The whole commune has 82 households eligible for support, of which 60 have completed and paid the cost, currently 18 households are under construction and 4 households have not started. The commune government has assigned staff to be in charge of each household, supporting with materials, labor and regularly urging progress.

Mr. Nong Ngoc Huan, Chairman of Phu Thong Commune People's Committee, said: The Commune People's Committee has met and developed a specific plan, integrated with the content of local socio-economic development, ensuring the progress of temporary housing demolition as committed.

For many households in remote areas, a new house is not only a shelter from the sun and rain, but also a symbol of change. Many families take advantage of favorable weather to speed up construction, saving costs by doing the work themselves or mobilizing relatives to do the work.

"Although the price of construction materials has increased, my wife and I proactively participated in some of the work, so we saved a significant amount of money on building a new house," said Mr. Ly Van Huong, in group 6, Na Ri commune.

The joy of Mr. Quang and Mr. Huong's families will continue to spread to hundreds of other households in the coming time. With the close support of authorities at all levels, the progress of removing temporary houses is not only a statistical number but also affirms practical effectiveness, creating a premise for people to settle down, develop the economy and escape poverty sustainably.
