Processing associated with product consumption

Ms. Phan Thi Nguyet's family in Ban Moc village, Yen Binh commune has been growing Shan Tuyet tea for many years and considers it an important source of livelihood. The tea garden is about 6,000 square meters wide. Previously, the products were mainly harvested and sold to retailers, so the economic value was limited.

Since joining the local tea cooperative and benefiting from the intensive farming and renovation support project implemented by the relevant authorities, Ms. Phan Thi Nguyet's family's tea area has been invested in and cared for properly, applying intensive farming techniques, so productivity and quality have continuously improved. The entire output is consumed by the cooperative for processing, bringing stable income and improving family life.

Ms. Nguyet shared: Thanks to projects supporting intensive cultivation and improvement of Shan Tuyet tea trees and the consumption linkage through the Cooperative, my family has a more stable livelihood. Tea trees bring regular income and create conditions for the family to feel secure in their commitment and long-term investment in economic development.

Currently, Yen Binh commune has developed a Shan Tuyet tea area of about 105 hectares that is being harvested. Thanks to the close connection between the people and the cooperatives, the tea area is increasingly expanding, the value of the products is increased, at the same time creating more jobs and increasing income for hundreds of households.

Along with Shan Tuyet tea trees, Yen Binh commune exploits the available potential to develop star anise and cinnamon trees, to diversify livelihoods and increase income for the people. The whole commune currently has about 900 hectares of star anise, of which 750 hectares are being harvested, with an average yield of 3 tons of fresh fruit per hectare, equivalent to about 2,250 tons per year.

Cinnamon is also a key crop in Yen Binh commune with a total area of about 1,200 hectares, of which 800 hectares are ready for exploitation and 400 hectares are newly planted. On average, each hectare of cinnamon yields about 20 tons, with purchase prices ranging from 15,000 VND/kg fresh to 40,000 VND/kg dry, providing a stable and sustainable source of income for many households.

Mr. Tran Ha Nam , Chairman of Yen Binh Commune People's Committee, emphasized: The Resolution of the 1st Commune Party Congress, term 2025-2030, identified the breakthrough as developing industrial crops, focusing on key crops such as Shan Tuyet tea, star anise, cinnamon and tobacco, to diversify livelihoods and improve people's lives. The commune will focus on mobilizing resources from programs and projects to support varieties, science and technology, processing and linking product consumption, thereby creating a sustainable value chain and increasing people's income.

Mobilizing resources for livelihood development

In Thanh Mai commune, utilizing resources from programs and projects under national target programs (NTPs) has brought about clear results in developing people's livelihoods.

Policies, projects and sub-projects under the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction have been implemented through many projects supporting community production development, with a total budget of over 3 billion VND. Practical models such as raising pigs for meat, chickens for meat, goats for breeding, and buffaloes for breeding have attracted the participation of 170 poor, near-poor and disadvantaged households.
