On the afternoon of August 28, at the 24th session (special session) of the People's Council of Soc Trang province, term X, term 2021-2026, delegates passed a resolution on Building an irrigation system to serve aquaculture in Vinh Chau town.
Although Vinh Chau town is a key shrimp farming area (area of nearly 11,000 hectares), the locality is currently facing difficulties in infrastructure and irrigation.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa Binh - Vice Chairman of Vinh Chau Town People's Committee - in the area, there are 35 sluices serving to take salt water for aquaculture. However, these works both supply water and discharge wastewater from production and daily life, so sedimentation in the sluices occurs very quickly. In addition, some works that have been invested in for a long time and are now degraded need synchronous investment to ensure effectiveness.
Faced with the above situation, the People's Council of Soc Trang province has approved the Resolution on the Project to build an irrigation system to serve aquaculture in Vinh Chau town. The total investment is nearly 60 billion VND.
Accordingly, the Bo Kenh culvert will be built on the My Thanh river dike, an open culvert with 1 compartment and 7.5m wide, and the upstream and downstream water supply channel will be dredged. The Nopuol culvert will be built on the Muoi Tra Von canal intersecting with Huyen 48 road, a box culvert with 2 compartments, each compartment is 4m wide, and the upstream and downstream water supply channel will be dredged.
When these projects are put into use, they will contribute to ensuring stable water sources for about 2,100 hectares of aquaculture land, preventing high tides in the context of climate change. Gradually perfecting the aquaculture and production areas according to the planning of Soc Trang province until 2030 and vision to 2050.
