Pig price in the North is the highest in the country, China reduces imports

The price of live pigs today, January 8, in the Central and Central Highlands regions is quiet, fluctuating between 48,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.

The pig market in the North moved sideways on the first day of the week.

Currently, the highest price of live pigs in the region is recorded in Hung Yen, Hanoi and Tuyen Quang at 52,000 VND/kg.

Except for Bac Giang and Yen Bai , which are trading at 51,000 VND/kg, the remaining localities are trading at 50,000 VND/kg.

Pig price today in the North is around 50,000 - 52,000 VND/kg.

* Pig prices in the Central and Central Highlands regions remain quiet.

Specifically, 48,000 VND/kg is the lowest live pig price recorded in Quang Tri, Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak and Binh Thuan .

Traders in other localities continue to buy live pigs at 49,000 - 50,000 VND/kg, depending on the region.

Currently, the price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 48,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.

* In the Southern region, pig prices also did not record any new changes.

Accordingly, the price of live pigs recorded in Ca Mau is 51,000 VND/kg - the highest in the region.

Live pigs in the remaining localities are being traded at prices ranging from 49,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.

* In 2023, the world pig farming industry will face many challenges. The rate of pig herd reduction is taking place in many countries; pork prices have continuously decreased since the beginning of July 2023 due to slow import demand in Asian countries, while supply in some exporters is abundant.

In China, hog prices have fallen due to abundant supplies while demand remains low despite the approaching holidays. The country’s pig producers have barely made a profit this year, with supplies significantly higher than a year ago and demand remaining sluggish.

Abundant pork supplies and low consumption due to the slowing economy have put pressure on the pork market despite peak demand during the winter season. China’s pork imports have been slowing in recent months due to weak demand.

According to data from the China Customs Administration, in the first 11 months of 2023, China imported 1.45 million tons of pork (HS 0203), worth 3.3 billion USD, down 6.1% in volume and 1.2% in value compared to the same period in 2022.
